It's not about insecurity, it's about respect. In Islam, depicting Muhammad is forbidden because the message was bigger than the man. The Christians took their prophet for worship beside God and neglect his message by doing so. They build larger than life statues of him. This is closer to idolatry than monotheism.

Now this being the case, why do it other than to be antagonistic? Sure they have every right to be antagonistic but why would anyone want to purposely be an antagonist?
