They saw what Colt Cabana was doing with the merch side of things and they took that a step further, then they saw what the Bullet Club was doing and jumped on that wave and took that further. Whatever you might think about them as wrestlers or as people, they're some of the smarter businessmen in the game. Just like Cody was smart to attach himself to the Bucks/Omega when he hit the indy scene.

The two go hand in hand tho... PWG was right in Meltzer's baccyard.. he'd see them regularly. So he helped put a spotlight on all these fast pace "super fun" matches and the legions of dirt sheet followers bought in.

You can watch in real time if you listened to his pods at the time

Meltzer hopped on the bandwagon like 2 or 3 years after PWG was the iWC's darling. shyt, from 08 to 11, PWG was like "the best kept secret" and from 12 to 15 it overtook ROH as the "mainstream indy" that had the best matches (to most of the internet fanbase). I remember watching Dave in a couple of big shows in the early 10's but he really didn't start pimping and hyping PWG until 2015.

He did the same with New Japan btw. The company was "quietly" good to great from 2007 to 2011 and only then did Meltzer started to hype them up huge and talking about Tanahashi as WOTY and of course then Okada crushed the buildings and things took off for the western IWC.

No doubt, the indies were full of struggle (unless you were already a name and could name your price) and these two found a way to not only make a lot of money, but make their main promotion draw really good in the context of an indy promotion. The found the way to make the cheapest motherfukkers in wrestling to no only spend money, but spend a lot of it.

Meltzer was actually fairly late to the party when it comes to PWG. By the time he actually started going to their shows I think some of the bigger names like Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens had already been signed

My point was more that Meltzer brought in a bunch of new fans of the style w/ his columns and pods

whenever Sasha has a big match coming she hits up Amazing Red and goes to train w/ them at H.O.G.
I legitimately didn't make the connection that the House of Glory that Master-P owns is the same one that Amazing Red is at :mindblown: Never put that together for some reason.
