I'm a top 2 Kobe stan and I always hated Phil Jackson... still gonna have to give him a SLIGHT pass on this one

:whoa:

This is a fleeting observation of a few privileged and select millionaires... not of a whole race... and it comes from a guy who has never received any accusations of racism from anyone ever... while they may be misguided and offhand, they do echo SOME, SOME valid sentiments, and I genuinely do not think he was or is a racist so I will give him a Hall Pass on this one he may use the drinking fountain.

Nah, I'm still hitting him with a straight cinderblock to the dome while he's drinking from the fountain. :birdman:

Tdot.. till the death of me
:why:

Sometimes when i sit back and read through these threads i cant help but think Im surrounded by fagg0ts and c00ns

Some of what he said was true, in some instances..., but really how are you going to let him generalize a whole race of people? You mean to tell me there isnt 1 black person in this world that is a team player!? Because if there is, then that stereotype is broken

I knew something was up with dr phil when he decided to have a discussion on hip hop and invited the Ying Yang Twins to speak on behalf of hip hop...really? Couldnt find nas? or jay z? or common?, or anyone who can conduct themselves properly? He invites ying yang twins who havent even been relevant since what 2003?

There was an agenda and it was at that point i knew something was up

Not all black folk are selfish players. He did say that there are a few black players that understand team effort, but they are usually shamed and chastised for being "not one of them." A lot of that shyt I seen first hand, which is why I even commented it on here.

I see what if he's saying, but if he truly feels this way then why doesn't he donate or get the NBA to donate money to poor neighborhoods or go coach at a high school and preach the importance of teamwork that way we can have some good basketball players in the next 20 years. Commenting on the state of basketball but not doing anything to fix it especially when you had your chance to. If you truly felt that way then why was most of your team black? Just seems like hypocrisy tbh. That's like saying I'm a racist but I used to date black girls

Phil Jackson starts spitting that ether and of course the obligatory "He's a racist!" accusations start flying. Anyone who grew up in the hood realizes that Phil's words have a significant amount of truth to them whether you nikkas choose to accept or or not. Anyone that had grown up in the hood or played basketball in the hood knows that the selfish 2 gaurd is extremely commonplace in most courts in the hood. To act as if Phil Jackson is talking completely out of his ass is dishonest. This man has nearly 3 decades of experience and multiple championships to boot. To attempt to discredit what he is saying by simply labeling him a racist is intellectually lazy.

:aicmon: If you're black and co-sign this, you lost. :smh:

This. This whole thread is eye-opening and proves that blacks harbour an alarming amount of internalized racism.

And notice that cacs like Havoc00 are dapping all the pro-Phil Jackson comments?

I fail to see what's so racist about what he said.

"The average player's career is a very short period of his life, and the minute he's through nobody knows who is."

Mr. Jackson, hit the nail on the head. Most these athletes are egomaniacs who think they'll be famous and rich forever. Puhleez. I heard the average athlete goes broke after 5 years in the game. If I were them I'd stop spending so lavishly, getting with money hungry chicks and save my money up for a rainy day.

This was said during the 70's when it rang true for the nba/aba

The reality is during that time and its somewhat true today, there is a cultural divide among races for the most part. Whites often went to nicer schools, more likely to have both parents and also more likely to have people around them that were in the position to help them to suceed. From that stand point they probley developed a better sense of community and what not. Whites often had many oppurtunites avalible to them and probley occupided there time with things other than basketball. It was often the opposite for blacks and was often a "survival of the fittest environment and due to the lack of oppurtunties, you breath and sleep basketball if thats your craft (which was one of few options that most blacks saw for themselves at the time).

The idea of making it in the NBA for many whites was seen as an option where as for blacks, making it to the nba was often seen as a neccessity. You have to look out for yourself and your families best interest so you do develop selfish tendancies. You do have to work on being the best player you can be individually because there so many people that can go to the NBA (or ABA). Once you make it to the NBA, then you probley feel like you made it and accomplished the goal of providing for your family (and fame .. all that stuff that comes with it). Many black players are living it up and not thinking much about the future because they didn't have many oppurtunities growing up so they are trying to make the most of it while its still there and couldn't picture achieving that without basketball. Many whites on the other hand experienced and were exposed to many things growing up, plus they were probley handed oppurtunties that most blacks were not. This led to them thinking theres a life beyond basketball and if they were not playing basketball then they could be doing well doing somthing else.

Overall, I think theres something to what he said and people shouldn't get offended by it because its just his observation at the time. Its really a cultural thing and not specifically a race thing but it just so happens theirs a cultural gap among races that still lies today for the most part but it is closing and hopeful will continue to close.

There is some truth to what he said. But some of it is crap, like blacks try to be the "toughest" or "richest"...uhhh, this doesnt apply to blacks anymore than it applies to whites.

As far as basketball, there is some truth to it, but could it be related to athletic talent? If you named the top 20 athletes in the NBA over the past 30 years, are ANY of them white? My point is maybe some people play different because they have to.
