First off, I'm not a "stan" because I don't agree with your opinion of her. Secondly, you haven't seen the movie and that's the perspective I'm speaking from. It is more realistic for a professional woman working at a major television network to have a white love interest. I can't find it in me to care that she wanted to bring that angle to the movie. It didn't matter anyway because at the end of the day, the movie would have been the same if her love interest had been black or white or non existent. Like Mike said she was just a supporting character.

After taking a quick look over the story, if I'm looking at this from a "community" perspective, then I don't like that she explicitly asked for a non-black love interest in the movie. Her justification seemed to be based on "the world that her character lived in" as if there are not eligible black men in that "world." I think this says something about the way both black men and black women view each other as BOTH black men and black women seem to believe that once they pass a certain threshold that there are simply no black people to date, which is patently false.

The people who want to say "its just a movie" don't understand the power of imagery and the fact that imagery like this goes to further propogate the notion that I mentioned above-that once a black man/woman passes a certain threshold, then he/she has "no choice but to date out." The same people who don't understand imagery don't understand how news stories, movies and other media is used to create an image of black people that justifies negative/aggressive behavior towards us by other groups. Not to mention how we view each other. This will fly over heads and I will probably receive myopic responses to which I will probably not even respond (just a heads up).

I keep highlighting that the general level of respect for black men from black women, that every other woman has for her ethnic/racial male counterpart on an intrinsic level, IS LACKING. Ask yourself this, WOULD A WHITE WOMAN HAVE ASKED FOR A BLACK MALE COUNTERPART BECAUSE "OF THE WORLD WE LIVE IN NOW"? Disclaimer: I am NOT an angry black man who hates black women. I have had quality romantic relationships with black women who have treated me royally. But I believe in objective review and discussion, especially on subjects that have a direct impact on me, my family and my community. And objectively, there is a lack of respect that is evident in the general perception that black women have of black men PERIOD.
