Mississippi Just Outlawed Slavery -- Daily Intelligencer
It's embarrassing enough that Mississippi didn't ratify the thirteenth amendment, which outlawed slavery, until 1995. But whoever was supposed to notify the Archivist of the United States got blacked out on moonshine instead (probably), which meant the ratification was never made official. This oversight was finally corrected eleven days ago because one random citizen saw Lincoln. Welcome to the nineteenth century, Mississippi.
