Maidana Won't Be Ready, Broner II To Get Pushed Back

Sebastian Contursi, manager of WBA welterweight champion Marcos Maidana (35-3, 31KOs), informed BoxingScene.com that his fighter will be unable to face Adrien Broner (27-1, 22KOs) on a date in April.

Last month in San Antonio, Maidana scored the biggest victory of his career with a twelve round unanimous decision over Broner at the Alamodome.

Broner recently exercised his contractual option for an immediate rematch. Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer was looking to stage the Showtime televised fight on April 19 at the Alamodome or April 26 in Los Angeles.

However, Maidana will not have enough time to properly train, says Contursi. And, Maidana's girlfriend is expecting the birth of their daughter in mid-March, which prevents the Argentine boxer from traveling over to the United States to prepare with trainer Robert Garcia in Oxnard, California.

Contursi has already informed Al Haymon, who advises both Broner and Maidana.

"We just had an approaching telephone conversation with Al Haymon and I've let him know that April is too early. We don't know about Broner, but Maidana usually needs six weeks to rest and ten weeks for training camp, so there is not enough time to rest and train properly for a major fight in April. On top of that, Maidana spent half of last year away from home training and his girlfriend is pregnant and expects for mid-March, so he wants to be present for his baby girl's birth. Those are the reasons," Contursi told BoxingScene.com.

:what:

They aint even talking about discussing dates for the future though. This is an OBVIOUS duck like I said he would do:heh:

I thought Maidana said would be ready to fight on Floyd on May 3rd......but now, since he has to take the rematch against AB, he's unable to fight a WEEK earlier on April 26th because he wont have enough time to train or see his baby born? But again, he would be ready for May 3rd though right:russ:

nikka, if you scared say you scared and give us back the belt:ufdup:

Look at Maidana yall:dead:

I think a lot has to do with that his camp is pissed Floyd isnt looking his way after the win.
Wouldn't doubt that he may be trying to Amir Khan his way into a Floyd fight.
Far before this came out he said he wasn't interested.....as financially a rematch is far from his best option.

Plus I don't blame him right now:
If girlfriend story is true :salute:
If he is looking for Mayweather :obama:
If he felt like he didnt have to fight immediately because he clearly won the first fight :yeshrug:

Only would question Maidana if he fights a bum in his next fight.
Hell a Garcia or Matthysse fight would be more interesting...and a Guerrero or Thurman fight would be worthwhile.
To me a rematch would be a good fight, but Maidana has other options...wouldnt blame him.

He won't be ready for late April :manny:

He will be ready for early May though :youngsabo:

He needs 6 weeks of rest.....but he's been resting 5 weeks already:bryan:

The proposed rematch is 14 weeks away. That gives him enough time for 4 more weeks of rest and the 10 weeks training. He just doesn't want the fight again. ......duck.

Maidana really gains nothing from a rematch anyway. The only person who can win here is Broner. If Maidana wins the rematch what did he really gain?

Casual fans will know who the hell he is.

Currently, him and Shawn Porter are fighting for the title of most unknown belt holders between 140-147:manny:

Besides, a Champion is always able to receive an immediate rematch if they lose, which is why the negotiate it in the contract. If Maidana didnt want to ever give Broner a rematch, he shouldnt have took the original fight.

If the first win didn't make casual fans notice neither will a second. Let's keep it real here, as far as the verbal public goes this is STILL all about Broner.

Theres no cry for an immediate rematch from the public because Maidana clearly won. Why not have Broner fight Lamont Peterson if he wins this month. :jawalrus:

Maidana really gains nothing from a rematch anyway. The only person who can win here is Broner. If Maidana wins the rematch what did he really gain?

He increases his chances of him fighting Mayweather in December 2014.

This is setting up to look like Broner Maidana 2 to be on the Mayweather Khan Undercard in May. Mayweather Khan is not that appealing but with this fight on the undercard, people would pay to watch this.

Mayweather's only guaranteed highest pay day against an opponent at this point that would exceed his fight with Canelo would be Manny Pacquiao. Floyd seems to be setting up the Pacquiao fight for 2015 to end the Showtime Contract. He will probably fight Danny Garcia or Maidana (if he beats Broner again) or Sergio Martinez (at light middleweight or super welterweight) in December 2014.

But anyway,Team Maidana sees this, the fight will happen. It is all a ploy to get Maidana, Broner, Mayweather, Khan, Al Haymon and Richard Schaefar all paid the maximum in May 2014.
