So here's the sample from a song that I made into a loop using Reason 5
I was hoping some of the more experienced producers could explain to me all the components of making a beat so I can add it to this. (IE Snare,Drums, Baseline).

however you want the pattern to be. got any drum kits? if not, then reason has some for you to load up.

load up kong or the redrum machine (redrum is better cause it can be tracked out) and select the little folder.

then there you have it, loaded up and ready to be layed down.

What equipment and/or software are you using?

Edit: Oh I see you said reason for the loop. I don't know reason, but I recommend doing your drum pattern first. play around with basic patterns in different BPM until you find the sound you like.

I also like to record my drum elements on separate tracks.

What exactly does a drum pattern consist of?
Do you mean like snares, kicks, etc?

Yeah. the most basic drum pattern is a kick and a snare. The metronome is your best friend when manually laying drum patterns.

YouTube has an infinite amount of tutorials. search for "Basic Drum Patters on Reason" or whatever program you plan on using.

Yeah bro you would be the perfect candidate for this book I'm thinking about, would you agree there's a lack of resources out there for someone like yourself who is a complete beginner? Have you tried looking for resources to help you along as you're just starting out?

It depends on your workflow and equipment but you can do it in whatever order you want. but this is where you add your bass, sample and other instruments.

I like to do my primary drums first, then primary sample. after that I do the bass followed by the secondary drums and other complimentary instrumentals/samples. once it sounds the way I like it, i loop it for the entire length of song then add the hook. after that I start removing and adding new tracks throughout the song so it's not 3+ minutes of the same loop over and over.. last thing I add is an intro and effects like (reverb, compression, etc).

But you have to find your best workflow. It's easier for me to build around the drums, but some people do their chops and instrumental elements first.

Other than watching a few Youtube videos not really.
I really don't know anything other than chopping up a sample so I could read a step by step book on producing to learn a few things.

Yea I noticed I do my chopping of the sample first. Then build around that.

Here's a Instrumental I just made using an Isley Brothers Sample.
Could you tell me what I am missing/maybe don't need?
