still a slap to the face to the WNBA...funny for people to joke about their players being gay but if some scrub in the NBA announces it the media treats him like a Jackie Robinson :camby::shaq2:

When women in the WNBA "come out" the media doesn't care because it's not good enough for them. They want a dude

The first amendment never promised anyone an ability to speak strongly on controversial topics without having to hear someone else's first amendment rights being expressed as well. If you strongly take a side on a controversial topic, you're going to have people opposing you, that's just how it works. While you'll probably get some flack if you tear down Jason Collins, you'll also get a ton of support from people who agree with you.
You don't get it. The backlash for expressing opinions opposing homosexuality is about a lot more than hearing from people who disagree. This Jason Collins shyt is an elaborate stunt that has been in the works for who knows how long. Obama was even in on it. The NBA isn't going to let a player come out and oppose this without facing some kind of punishment. That's the thing, it's basically gotten to the point where it's illegal to express disagreement with homosexuality.

I see a lot of people in this thread bashing jason collins but there should more backlash towards the NBA. Silver and the rich powerful jews who run the league really thought they were pulling a fast one over people. This guy collins has been begging for a job ALL YEAR & soon as the michael sam story became a hit surprise surprise collins signs in the largest media market in the world.

The nba doesn't give damn about collins, it's all about not letting the NFL steal all the gay athlete headlines. The truth is collins is not good enough to be on a nba roster but he'll stay on the team as the unofficial mascot & I just wish some writer or sports analyst had the balls to call them out it but they know their career would be over.

You have these two open gay athletes but I see plenty in my everyday life. And one thing most of them have in common is they're all attention whores. It's like "look at me I'm gay/lesbian but don't judge me & treat me fairly". My thing it's your PRIVATE LIFE, why bring attention to something you do in the confides of your own home? And I won't even touch the SAM/COLLINS =Jackie robinson analogy because it's so stupid & gotcha journalism.

Also another thing that has me irritated about this whole situation is that Long Legged Freak OBAMA calling this guy, inviting him to white house dinners & thanking them(collins, sam) as if they just came back from doing 4 tours of duty & receiving the purple heart. But yet it took him forever to issue a statement on the death of michael jackson, it's all PC now...

and thats dumb anyway. saying u disagree with gay lifestyle is like saying u disagree with people being tall or disagree with people being jewish.

the fact that they got you say stupid chit like this is why alot of us are allegedly "angry".

some of us get offended when our intelligence is being insulted. especially when they struggle-compare this chit to the civil rights movement and the black struggle.

Jason Collins to wear No. 98 with Nets as tribute to slain gay college student Matthew Shepard

You'll never, ever ever, in a million years, see one of these dudes wearing "12" in honor of Trayvon Martin, or "98" in honor of James Byrd Jr or 55 in honor of Emmit Till....but in a league that is majority black, it's completely okay for any athlete to come out and support gay issues.

Same shyt as with the anti-gay commercials. These dudes are asked to go out and talk about discrimination against gays, but you never hear a peep about discriminatory language towards blacks.

fukk him and fukk those who gave him the pity clap in Denver the other night when they put him in the game when the Nets were up by 30 in the 4th qtr. This is dragged the fukk out outside of BSPN.

Dude just wants to be remembered for something because he has a forgettable NBA career.

collins ain't even the 1st gay pro athlete, but there's no agenda.

A jersey being made for a guy on a 10 day contract and you say that there's no agenda? OK.

Disney is pulling their funding from the Boy Scouts for their rules about openly gay Boy Scout leaders not being allowed and you say that there's no agenda? OK.

I honestly think they are setting him up with something much bigger. Something in politics for sure, I wouldn't be surprised if he runs for governor of California in 10 years, and runs for President a couple of years later. shyt is fukken foul brehs. This is a perfect example of how manipulative the media is. They can prop up whoever they want to. Saying he "brave and courageous" like he a fukken solider or a fireman or some shyt. :comeon:
