Hot Rod aka Rodimus Prime is the ONLY Autobot that people seem to legit hate. Every other Autobot got a small group of fans but Rodimus is almost universally hated. They'd have been better off making Ultra Magnus the temp leader.

I haven't seen this movie since it first came out. I was seven or eight and my uncle (RIP) took me to see it. I was shattered walking out of that theater.

Storywise making Hot Rod the new Prime instead of Ultra Magnus was a great swerve, they just fukked up not realizing how much kids loved Optimus to the point they would never forgive Hot Rod for putting him in the position that got him killed.

Dunno if yall watch TFPrime but they were looking like they were gonna go the same route but have Smokescreen become the new prime. I'm like these fuggers aint learn from Rodimus???

Rodimus got so much backlash, they've barely used him in newer cartoons. He's not in "Prime" and they showed one action shot of him in "Animated". He's forever linked to killing our hero and when/if he shows up in the future, we know whats coming next

I think they could use him if the next TF series is set after Optimus is already gone. I would like to see a fresh take on the story not centered around OP/Megatron...

As a transformers guru, this was the pinnacle of my child hood. The movie was epic and unicron scared me as a kid.

As for Rodimus, Hasbro wanted to get rid of toys that weren't selling. Thus why Optimus was on the chopping block. Kids loved Optimus so much they wrote into Hasbro to bring him back and also changed GiJoe the movie in which duke was suppose to die as well.


I for one, LOVED Rodimus, Galvatron and company. I didn't really appreciate Megatron and Optimus until I was an adult. Rodimus was more real to me. Optimus was so perfect (except in Megatrons master plan). Rodimus didn't always know what to do, but he was learning along the way. We kinda grew up with Rodimus as he was adjusting to becoming the new leader. Then Optimus comes back and throws Rodimus into the bushes.

I like Galvatron better because he was insane and was pretty funny at times.

For trademark reasons, every new series (or any series for that matter) will have a Optimus and Megatron. During the 90s, Hasbro almost lost the trademark of Megatron to another toy company

I'm thinking thats not a issue now with all the different mediums that involve TF from movies to comics to toys to video games. They could start a separate cartoon without OP/Megatron if they wanted to and still use OP/Megatron in the other mediums...

I'm apart of another Transformers forum tfw2005.com and we used to have one of the main designers for the toy line post straight from Hasbro. Back in 2003, he claim that was the protocol to keep the trademarks. Things might have changed but now with how popular the movies are, but every series will have a Optimus, Megatron, Starscream and a Bumblebee in it since that's what kids identify with.

As far as toys, yea we have Rodimus (no prime) and Galvatron (but no connections to Megatron).
