I think both parties should be given equal flack. If he's stupid enough to cheat, and she's stupid enough to go along with it even though he has a girl, then they both should be blamed. But why even waste energy, and ultimately hurt someone like that when you could simply end the relationship? That's the main thing that I don't get.

Agreed. For selfish reasons. They love their s.o. and don't want to lose him/her, but also want to have their fun on the side. Life doesn't work that way.
