He really didn't, but it was a FIRE promo. 0 to 60 in 10 minutes.

Also, I'll post this in here, because I actually do want an answer to this question:

It's impressive, but I have no idea how people can see Punk as the heel here.

Eddie loses an important match for the exact reasons that Danielson said were holding him back in general (he doesn't do the necessary prep work outside of the ring to ensure that he lasts inside of it), and he reacts by flipping out and stepping on Punk's promo time because of some perceived, imaginary slight coded into his smile. When Punk asks him to apologize for being a sore loser and interrupting him, he gives a half-assed apology and then launches into a tirade about issues they had that have nothing to do with the situation at hand because his ego is wounded. When Punk tells him (as Danielson did) that many of his issues are self-inflicted (which is actually borne out by looking at Eddie's character arc in AEW), he flips out again and goads Punk into attacking him.

I don't know about anyone else, but if one of my friends reacted to a loss the way Eddie did, I'd tell him to get a grip, control himself, and stop acting like a child. Mindblowing how people can see Punk as the bad guy because of his demeanor or whatever.

I think what your missing is the nuance

Punk coming out: telling, not asking the crowd to be quiet

Punk not wanting to fight Eddie at the PPV

Punk losing his cool and calling Eddie a bum

Eddie speaking the truth about no one liking Punk (God I hope leads to a Summer of Punk situation) and Punk couldn't handle it so he headbutts him first

Not to mention Bryan said what he said about Eddie to motivate him, Punk said it to be a dikk

Eddie played the sympathetic heel
We all know a guy like Eddie

because eddie kingston has always come off as the relatable sympathetic underdog figure whereas punk is looked at like the super successful top dog looking down on him, regardless of if eddie's reasoning for confronting him was irrational, same way he garnered support against moxley when they faced

plus he mentioned being talked down on because hes overweight and AEW's fanbase can identify with that :troll:

I get that Punk was an a$$hole, but why shouldn't he be an a$$hole to Eddie? Dude literally didn't do shyt to Eddie in kayfabe except be there while he was throwing a sore loser tantrum backstage. Yes, we all know a guy like Eddie, but that type of behavior wears thin really quickly and becomes something you just don't want to deal with. I'd be a little bit of a dikk too if I had to deal with it.

Also, I'll post this here as well:

Yeah, and I'll have no problem with the booking if Punk does indeed turn heel here (I think it would be far too early to do that, though. He hasn't even been in the company for 3 months). But Eddie's acting like the world owes him something in storyline, and Punk being kind of a dikk about the situation doesn't change the fact that this is an issue totally of Eddie's own making.

Like, Eddie has a title match against Miro where he exploits his weakness, and when it doesn't work immediately, he doesn't go back to it (as Fuego del Sol and Sammy Guevara did). Instead, he tries to cheat, gets mad at Bryce Remsburg for doing his job and stopping him, loses, then blames Remsburg for losing?

Then Eddie has a critical match against Danielson where, beforehand, Danielson points out exactly what I said in my last post. He proceeds to put Danielson on the ropes several times, but can't capitalize due to his lack of conditioning (among other reasons), gets choked out, then takes out his frustrations by getting in Punk's face and trying to fight him? In storyline, Punk showed incredible restraint in not hitting him until the very end of that promo battle.

Like I said, if it goes the other way, I'm fine with it since the crowd loves Eddie and Punk is an all-time great heel. But I'm just not seeing it the way many others do right now.

@SpacelySprockets gave the reason why Punk turning is fine, but just not seeing how Punk is the heel in kayfabe.

Like, why should he have to spare the feelings of this self-destructive dude that's stepping to him, anyway? I feel like that's the big stumbling point for me (again, no problem if the feud actually goes forward with Punk as the heel, because it'll work regardless).
