smh it's MY thread, meant to discuss Cam Newton not yet showing much progress as a PASSER and yet dudes on here were quick to crown him as a top 7 QB based on empty stats last year in large part due to his skin color and flashiness.

this thread wasn't even meant to knock Cam, it was more so an indictment of some of the dudes on this board who were so quick to anoint him because they were desperate for an elite black QB when he hadn't proved to be that yet... now that he's come back down to Earth and is going through growing pains like any young QB would, it's "Cam's still young, he'll figure it out" when last year it was "Cam the GAWD... dude might be a top 5 QB in the league right now, fukk it"

the reason I brought up 300 yard passing games is because there's no precedent for a QB being successful over a long period of time when he can't sit in the pocket and make accurate throws and good decisions consistently... am I saying Cam will never be able to do that? Nah, just that he hasn't shown that up to this point, and yet you idiots were crowning him already

his rushing stats were great and all, but again, there's no precedent for a dude who runs that much being elite for the long haul... Tarkenton never won shyt, Cunningham never won shyt, Vick never won shyt, etc. I don't really count Steve Young as a running QB because he's 3rd all time in passer rating and led the league in TD passes

Like the defense wasn't the main reason the Giants won two superbowls. Fact of the matter is Cam and the offense put up big numbers, but their defense was one of the worst I've seen. At least GB creates to's even though they give up a ton of yards.

No Eli was the main reason the defense was a reason but They wouldn't even be in the playoffs without him . Eli is a elite qb top 5 now best 4 th qb in nfl history . Isn't that what we already knew about him coming out? What's amazing is he somehow parleyed that into a record breaking rookie season.

We knew he wasn't a pocket passer when he got drafted. Holding that against him 19 games later is silly IMO. Especially when he did what he did despite that fact.

every rookie qb wasn't given free rein. They usually brought along slowly so that record is misleading Lots of rookies throwing 3 picks in a game get benched back in the day

Cam put together the best rookie season ever for a QB. He threw 60 less passes than Peyton did his rookie year yet threw for 300 more yards. His INT% was 3.3% compared to Peyton's 4.8%. Manning threw 28 picks as a rookie. Cam's QB rating was 13 points higher than Peyton.

That's in comparison to the best rookie QB in a long time. Cam shat on him. Now who is it you were referring to?

can you read??? I said every rookie qb isn't given that much leeway . The guy still threw 22 int thats not balling out .the other stats are great but how many rookie qbs would get multiple 3 int games ?

Marino never won shyt. Kelly never won shyt. Moon never won shyt. Not every QB gets the honor of winning a SB.

He threw for 4,000 last year which means he had a very good year throwing the ball. Would you rather have seen him with more 300 yard games coupled with more 100 yard games to achieve the same benchmark?

He threw for more yards than any rookie QB in the history of the league. The most rushing TDs for any QB in the history of the league is just another dimension.
