Recividism is real.
On the real though, hella places people outside of Cali "never heard of" are or were the most cutty places in Cali. People outside of Cali think the only hoods in the state are South Central, Compton, Watts, Long Beach and Oakland.
The worst places in Cali are or were in or very near places you would least expect. Palo Alto is one of the richest, snobbiest, most educated, whitest parts of America but down the street was East Palo Alto which was official the murder cap of the country in 92'.
Everybody outside Cali think San Francisco is all rich cacs, homos and rainbows when Hunters Point in SF was easily the worst hood in the state before gentrification. HP had the highest infant mortality rate in California, was located on the most toxic waste dump on the west coast and any given year half the homicides for the whole city happened in the Point even though its literally 5% of a whole ass city if 800k people.
People outside Cali never even heard of Stockton even though its currently the most dangerous city in Cali and stays in the top ten most dangerous cities list. Some people never even heard of Richmond and the Rich used to stay in the top ten most dangerous cities as well.
Non-Cali people also don't really understand how territorial Cali hoods can be. You most likely getting pressed if you slide through, especially if you black and young and look like you might be with the activities because black folks are a peripheral minority in a huge percentage of the state and mostly stay in the hood.
I say this as a Cali breh living in Maryland. But it goes both ways because the average person in Cali who's never been to the East Coast doesn't know what or where PG County is.
