I've got both:ld:

from the looks of it, if I'm lucky I can land a job as a policy analyst, copywriter, or an editor. Any political science or English graduates here feel free to give advice/share details on your situation

teacher. You don't make much, but you don't work much either. Every vacation, day over by 2:30, get a raise every year and the job never changes, never a boring day.

its not a bad gig :yeshrug:

Tell me straight b, do you think your English degree is worth it?

I'm considering doing English next year, but the lack of prospects in the job market is the worst thing I can ever imagine.

End up working a job that you can do without a degree/3+ years of learning.

I am so lost. :lupe:

I have a political science degree, but work in IT. Was lucky to get an entry level IT job while completing my degree. Turns out I had a knack for it and now I have a pretty good career.

Check out technical writing and try to parlay that into an IT career maybe. Poli Sci unfortunately doesn't offer many job prospects in this day and age, unless you luck up. The good thing about those two degrees is that you learned how to handle people pretty well and can state ideas clearly, so you already have a leg up when it comes to corporate jobs. They eat that sh1t up.

You didn't need an education degree? On a lot of websites that tell you about career options as an english or political science graduate, they usually list jobs that you need another degree(usually business related) to get :upsetfavre:

I don't feel like I've wasted my time because I've improved my reading comprehension, and critical thinking skills. I'd say, if you're planning on getting a job related to your degree, then English isn't the way to go. Unless you plan to get a PHD and then become an English professor, or freelance writer. What I've noticed is that employers are looking more for job experience and certification than whatever degree you had.

Ditto

Foreign Service Exam is October, if your either a Pol Sci or English major you'll kill it, you're both so the test is gonna be a breeze. Who knows you might wow them during the interview.

Go register for it it's free

Everyday I go to USAJOBS and apply to any job that I meet the requirements for usually at the gs-5 level. You could be a Cop too.

If all else fails than Law School.

you would need a degree in education. typically what people do is get their masters in education. Lots of schools offer a program where you intern in a school for year, and take night classes to get the degree, Typically take 3 semesters (fall, spring, summer). The internship pays for the classes, but its hard to get a side job so you need to have some income. I took out a small student loan and lived off it :yeshrug:

or you could just apply to private schools. The English degree would be enough on its own at most i think.

Word? Then I'm good. :why:

That sucks because it really is a limited field to gain employment from. Granted, I can see how reading comprehension and critical thinking skills are desirable, but to think that I spent xxx amount of thousands to say that I can do those doesn't justify the ends.
