What he's doing is worse than what Bron did and there is no way around it. Bron played his deal out and went elsewhere. There was no waffling, he made his decision and rode with it. Dwight could've been in the same boat but for some reason (likely greed) signed that extension in March. If he doesn't sign that extension I have no issue with the shyt. There is nothing dumber than wanting to leave and having the opportunity to leave but then agreeing to stick around and then turning around and asking to leave.

As far as Bron goes his backlash had nothing to do with Cleveland or even "The Decision" it was all about him not doing what he was supposed to do which was either stay in Cleveland or go to one of the teams that people approved of. People openly fantasized about him leaving for 7 years and tuned in to the Decision in record numbers so clearly him leaving and the tv special didn't bother people until the decision he made went against what they were expecting. Take away all the talking points and all Bron did was make a grown man decision. Dwight is acting like a little girl. No comparison but since, as others have said, people don't care about Dwight like that and he's tryna get to Brooklyn I don't think the backlash will be as strong or have as much legs.
