After looking at the cap implications, I'd be all over the Okafor deal. He's young with a lot of talent and maybe a change of scenery could spark his motor to match his talent but even if not...we get the option on his contract for next season and he's a RFA after that. He's less than half the cost of Lee as well. So get younger, lock-up a young front court with upside and free up some extra space to target a couple of veteran guards...I take that ish. The worst that can happen is Okafor flops and we don't pick up his option plus get a better draft pick in the offseason. But all of this is assuming the 6'ers aren't pressing for additional compensation.
On Gaines cussing out the media, good. These dudes treated Phil's whole run like they were working for TMZ and that was a continuation of it. You could see the fans seeing right through this attempt too, by following their tweets complaining about Hornacek and Mills refusing to interview. It's a summer league game, Mills is working, Hornacek is letting his assistants coach the team...neither of those guys is obliged to address the media and why would they when the topic of the day has been "were they just laughing at Melo in that five second clip!?" With Phil, he'd made controversial moves, so the "We deserve to know everything" rants got some love. Now that it's been less than a week since Phil's gone and they're bringing it up again, most people are like "stfu and give them some time to sort everything out." It's obvious these dudes can't find a story, so they're fishing for whatever they can.
Jonathon Simmons would be a great get along with Williams, but both are RFA's so we'd have to overpay. Malta's dead on about Shabazz, that's a player at a good age who could pay off immediately with an increased role. I still like Tony Snell too, especially if we can get a Holiday type deal done. He's not a tank breaker, but he's still young and plays defense to go along with a jumper that showed legitimate improvement (mainly from the corners) last season. If his jumper keeps expanding, that's a good value. I hate the Shelvin Mack talk, I like him as a minimum type third stringer...but not as a mentor for our 18 year old rookie PG. I haven't looked at the alternatives that are left though. Hella PG's have been signed already and we do need to bring in some veteran experience, but I still say we pay Teodosic at the cost he allegedly wants.
