it's amazing how people expect rappers and producers in their 50s and damn near 60s to make music as they did in their 20. That itself is hilarious. I have low expectations. Snoop can't rhyme about being in the hood and smoking weed all day or pulling drive bys. Dre just seems to like to try new shyt. When Stevie Wonder releases a new album, I'm not expecting Songs in the Key of Life. I'm not even expecting Jungle Fever. I know better

Snoop credits Richie Rich as the one that inspired him to start rapping and he’s still putting out plenty of heat :yeshrug:

No one is asking for that and I hate hearing that excuse continuously being made, especially when it’s been proven that long time vets can very well simply make music that sounds good currently. Snoop still has a smooth ass flow today and all I want from him is to stay true to himself over production that fits him. Nas, GFK, LL Cool, Kool G Rap, Onyx, Juicy J and a lot of others have made appeals music in recent years. As long as the vets don’t have washed/dated flows and aren’t trying to keep up with Teezo Touchdown and Lil Yachty, it’s all good.

I think there's a really important factor here that is being overlooked

I think there's a really big reason that Dr. Dre is only rapping on two of the tracks on this album

We just gotta appreciate it for what it is and appreciate them for who they are, let it be a celebration of all they've done all they've contributed to culture at large

What you're not going to get here is a collection of songs that you'd be happy with being performed alongside the songs you actually went to a Dr. Dre concert to see performed

Yea right

This truly speaks to my frustration with Dre recently. While he may have gotten better as a musician and in terms of being technically gifted and knowing how to play notes, learning music theory and what not, his music is noticeably worse. He has no pulse on what is hot anymore of even what we loved about Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre and it shows in his music lately.

On that Compton album this man was rapping obviously ghostwritten verses from Kendrick down to the same flow and cadence.

I get trying new things, I really do.

Kanye battles with that but even he gave us an updated version of his old style with My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. Even on Yeezus which went completely left, he still gave us "bound 2". You gotta give nukkas baby steps when you're introducing new sounds. How can you call this album missionary but don't do anything to pay homage to what people loved about you in the first place.

I’mma go ahead and say it..

I’ll give them props for the positive content..

But ALL these tracks I’ve heard so far are ASS
and y’all wouldn’t have said any different if it wasn’t
Snoop and Dre attached to them.

The beats are boring, no real BOP to them.
Not innovative, not nostalgic, not modern, just bland as hell
The rappin is off-beat A LOT.
Choruses are forced.

This ain’t it, AT ALL..

Really shows that Daz wasn’t lying when he said he really produced all of chronic and doggystyle :mjlol:

Don’t forget Mel Man produced 2001

I kept hearing that. Is there any Daz produced albums from around the same time with similar beats? Could Dogfood be one? I remember the beats don't sound as refined on Dogfood as Doggy style or Chronic.

Nah. Only idiots spread that nonsense around.

Daz said himself that he didn't do anything on The Chronic or Doggystyle. Snoop said people need to stop saying that because it isn't true. Warren G said he was with Dre for most of The Chronic because he gave him a lot of the records Dre used for the album. And he always says that Dre would be alone working on that album, unless he brought in live musicians. Kurupt said the same.

Daz did Dogg Food. Dre recorded and mixed it. He helped Dre on the remix for Rage's "Afro Puffs" with the bassline, and Dre credited him for it. Only in Hip Hop do weirdos go out of their way to discredit GOAT's. Sh*t is corny.

I can see that.

I'm conflicted about Dre. His first run was great. Then when he decided to stop rapping - that was the turning point.

I always liked Dre's rapping voice. He came across as a believable crime boss.

Then when his mistresses got revealed I was taken aback. Because his wife was more attractive than all of them.

He has been through alot.

But I wish he didn't take so many long breaks.

This new Snoop album's sounding good tho.

He never really stopped rapping. He's always in the booth.

I don’t really care about his personal life. I just want dude to keep the tracks banging and dropping dope sh*t. He's annoying as hell with the long breaks, but it's just how he is. But I'm not that excited for a new Snoop album. I do want a new Dre album though!
