The fact that Sly wrote, produced and arranged and recorded most of this album alone with overdubbing and using a drum machine just proves how much of a genius he is!
And just think, that version of the album “Ain’t but the One Way” isn’t even the one that was suppose to come out
That album was suppose to be a collaborative effort from both Sly and George Clinton but because George was at odds with Warner Brothers he left the label and Sly couldn’t be found so Warner Brothers had another producer (Stewart Levine) put the album together from what Sly had started and produce it.
With all that said, my favorite from the album is the 40 second clip of “Sylvester”
Sly didn't produce his song "Remember Who You Are" but he did co write it with Hamp Banks and i hear the influence it had on Prince's song, "Ballad of Dorothy Parker"
Love it! The statue they're sitting on in the cover art is the legendary "Green Monster" play structure near Lake Merritt in Oakland, for those who don't know.
