To those who said Slum Village is overrated or wack

You never heard a slum village album them. They were far from wack.

No they wasn't super lyrical or any of that but they were creative and jay dee aka j dilla aka dilla dawg provided some of the best beats in all of hiphop. I know a lot of y'all are going be like ooh you're just saying that cause he's dead and it's cool to like j dilla but if you're a fan of dope hip hop beats, the art of sampling, crate digging, j dilla is one of the best ever. Him madlib, Pete rock, premo, they are GODS of hip hop production. Dilla is beauty.

Now as far as lyrical content, no they weren't flipping mad verbs but they weren't wack. They rhymed about everything from threesomes to working to get paid to contant gardens. Then Elzhi joined and he was super lyrical guy but he wasn't corny. He probably right now, top 3 MC in terms of pure skills and wordplay. Slum was about melodies and cadences. It wasn't about what you said, it how you said. If you listen to a slum album, they had a flow-sing like rhyme scheme. Especially on fantastic vol 2.

Now as for this particular single, this was when anything kanye was hot. He had this and the dilated people's cut. The beat was crazy. As for kanye jacking dilla, the only time he did and he admitted it was with BE. Common wanted just dilla but dilla was dying of lupus and TTP. So kanye studied how j dilla would chop and cut samples to shreds to make the album sound more cohesive

I've always thought Slum Village was overrated as shyt. I do like the song Selfish.
Yeah Backpackers used to be on SV dikks and at the same time shyt on DMX or any mainstream rapper for not being lyrical enough.

They were decent. They made some good records. Selfish was a great single. I like "Fall in love" (mainly for the beat) more though.

I point to this record.
when people talk about j cole not sounding like nas.
then, I point to the fact.
this slum village record will elz outdrew every wack wannabe emo rapper who is a mainstream sellout, too.
on top of the fact, Kanye ripped off jay dee and tricky's maxinquayre for mbdtf.
all with no talent on the mic, whatsoever.
