it's sad to me, breh. Of the top 5 GOAT 80s rappers (Slick Rick, Rakim, Kane, KRS-1 and Kool G), Slick Rick is probably my favorite. Between him and Rakim. And his flow lasted longer than Rakim's. He was still killing it by 98/99. He murdered Mos Def on Auditorium, and that was like 2007. How come no one's forcing Rick into a studio to record that "Long Hot Summer" album he might have in him.

:gladbron: Never heard this before!

Someone force Rick into a damn studio :snoop:

i agree, it is sad :mjcry:
he's the one rapper from the 80's who i think could still deliver a really great album. he's a natural at rhymin'. he makes it look all so easy :wow:

straight up. The most effortless rapper of ALL TIME. Snoop and Method Man come close, and are obvious descendants of that family tree. Slick's on another planet. And I don't know how the fukk he does it. Because one little error in that voice/flow and he'd sound gay and bytchmade. But it never happens! He always sounds hard and still has bass in his voice! :damn: :deadrose: Brehs, I need explanations. How is this possible?

A lot of people don't realize how many lines/references other rappers used from this album

an endless amount of times in so many songs

so many have bowed to his greatness

jay talked about him in his decoded

Jay-Z on Slick Rick
The British MC was one of the cornerstones of Def Jam Records’ early years and left quite an impression on hip-hop’s following generations. In the “Come and Get Me” section of “Decoded,” Jay delves into why Slick was so talented, juxtaposed with Texas MC Scarface. Both icons use emotion in their lyrics: Rick through the punch line of a lingering joke, and ’Face through a brash and open delivery.

“Slick Rick also wrote some of the first rap songs that were genuinely sad — which sounds like a strange thing to say. … Slick Rick was too much of an artist to come out with straight-up tearjerkers, but like all great comics he knew how to hide deeper emotions between the punch lines, emotions like regret and loss, the kind of feelings that could make you pause even while you were speeding down the New Jersey turnpike on the way to your hustling spot. … Slick Rick taught me that not only can rap be emotionally expressive, it can even express those feelings that you can’t really name — which was important for me, and for lots of kids like me, who couldn’t always find the language to make sense of our feelings.”

ghost on slick rick at the 45 second mark

nas said at times the great adventures of slick rick has been his favorite album at times in an interview he did with tyler the creator for xxl magazine

Tyler, the Creator: That’s some shyt. I’ve never heard orange or burgundy, or would’ve thought that I would’ve heard orange or burgundy, as someone’s favorite color. That’s fukkin’ awesome. That’s legit. Do you have a favorite album?

Nas: It changes, you know? It was the I Want You album.

Tyler, the Creator: Is that by Marvin Gaye?

Nas: Marvin Gaye. And, at one point, it was Shaved Fish, by John Lennon. And another time it was one of EPMD’s albums. Like, Unfinished Business. You know? Or The Great Adventures of Slick Rick.

"DAVE THE DOPE FIEND SHOOTIN DOPE, WHO DONT KNOW THE MEANING OF WATER NOR SOAP"

saw this thread n thought about that line:mjlol: shyt made me look up the lyrics.. even reads like a real bedtime story:wow:

Once upon a time not long ago,
when people wore pajamas and lived life slow,
When laws were stern and justice stood,
and people were behavin' like they ought ta good,
There lived a lil' boy who was misled,
by anotha lil' boy and this is what he said:
"Me, Ya, Ty, we gonna make sum cash,
robbin' old folks and makin' tha dash",
They did the job, money came with ease,
but one couldn't stop, it's like he had a disease,
He robbed another and another and a sista and her brotha,
tried to rob a man who was a D.T. undercover,
The cop grabbed his arm, he started acting erratic,
he said "Keep still, boy, no need for static",
Punched him in his belly and he gave him a slap,
but little did he know the lil' boy was strapped,
The kid pulled out a gun, he said "Why did ya hit me ?",
the barrel was set straight for the cop's kidney,
The cop got scared, the kid, he starts to figure,
"1000 years if I pull this trigga",
So he cold dashed and ran around the block,
cop radioes it to another lady cop,
He ran by a tree, there he saw this sista,
a shot for the head, he shot back but he missed her,
Looked around good and from expectations,
so he decided he'd head for the subway stations,
But she was coming and he made a left,
he was runnin' top speed till he was outta breath,
Knocked an old man down and swore he killed him,
then he made his move to an abandoned building,
Ran up the stairs up to the top floor,
opened up the door there, guess who he saw?,
Dave the dope fiend shootin' dope,
who don't know the meaning of water nor soap,
He said "I need bullets, hurry up, run!"
the dope fiend brought back a spanking shotgun,
He went outside but there was cops all over,
then he dipped into a car, a stolen Nova [?],
Raced up the block doing 83,
crashed into a tree near university,
Escaped alive though the car was battered,
rat-a-tat-tatted and all the cops scattered,
Ran out of bullets and still had static,
grabbed a pregnant lady and out the automatic,
Pointed at her head and he said the gun was full o' lead,
he told the cops "Back off or honey here's dead",
Deep in his heart he knew he was wrong,
so he let the lady go and he starts to run on,
Sirens sounded, he seemed astounded,
before long the lil' boy got surrounded,
He dropped the gun, so went the glory,
and this is the way I must end this story,
He was only seventeen, in a madman's dream,
the cops shot the kid, I still hear him scream,
This ain't funny so don't ya dare laugh,
just another case 'bout the wrong path,
Straight 'n narrow or yo' soul gets cast
