Skyzoo not having a higher profile in hip hop is an indictment on our culture. He is unequivocally one of the best MC's spitting --- and hes not Joe underground nicca either (just in sales), he has an accessible, diverse style that everyone should be able to get down to and appreciate. A brilliant MC who never fails to impress --- hes just not suckin enough dikk for the industry it seems, 'cause it damn sure aint talent thats holding him back.
Elzhi is one of the best lyricists doing it, but I think it could be argued that Skyzoo is better than him. .
Unequivocal truth.
I simply can't think why even in underground circles he's not revered because he deserves to be.
Elzhi is one of the best lyricists doing it, but I think it could be argued that Skyzoo is better than him. He's easier to listen to, every song feels like a story, a journey, he's slick, he's witty.
I dunno...hip-hop's anointment of certain emcees sometimes baffles me, even below the mainstream.
The only thing stopping Skyzoo from getting to that next level in terms of popularity is that his bars can be overly complex at times. I personally appreciate it, but half his references and wordplay would go over the average listener's head, so they wouldn't really understand.
I think he could do a better job of balancing being straight forward and being cryptic/using allegories, kinda like Lupe does.
Incredible album though, one of the 5 best of 2012 IMO

how do you judge what's popular in "underground circles" though. "the underground" is like a million-and-one cats. I think Skyzoo gets his share or respect in "the underground"
Skyzoo has lost a tremendous amount of footing in my listening sphere. He screams cornball to me.
