One cop fired 49 shots. Then after 100+ shots were fired and the car trapped. He ran onto the hood of the car and executed the two inside? Sounds like murder not manslaughter.

Does the police even undergo real training? Honest question. What do they do in the Academy? Do they have to qualify every year? How often do they go to the range? Are there training exercises that involve simulations of real world scenarios?

I think part of the problem is the mythology of police rules of engagement
it's pretty clear that once you put police life in danger (in any way, shape or form, directly or indirectly), they will be determined to kill or maim you regardless of how safe the dynamic of the situation has become for them. You will not make it to the station unharmed, a message will be sent with your life or wellbeing. Involving live feed cameras and live off-site supervisory management, during these intense prolonged confrontations, is the only way to temper the adrenalin and "a life for an eye" mentality that the FOP secretly believes in.

Yeah, people in fear for their life and think they can still shoot, don't hop on the hood of the car right in front of them. They take cover and shoot. Plus, former military are trained to kill.
The cac was a Marine and its obvious he had a PTSD trigger event than compelled him to do that. Bottom line, those two were dead the moment their lives car backfired.
