if hes a FA thats even worse ? he would demand a multi-year deal and now our first round pick last year is what, like #4 or #5 passing option on a team that runs the ball a lot ?

lol fair enough I figured if it was even being thrown out as a possibility that he’d be taking a team friendly deal as it seems like he wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire last season.

He tore his acl/mcl, they didn’t even immediately have surgery, I guess they wanted his mcl to heal in its own first

Brutal luck for Aiyuk and the team god damn. Him and Brock had great chemistry. I hope Pearsal can fill that void.

He can’t do what Deebo does, too small

He doesn't need to. Deebo being Deebo is why he can't play a full season. We need for Pearsall to be surehanded and be an actual factor when it comes to running routes. Deebo the past 2 years has been only effective in the screen game and rarely makes the contested catch, Pearsall can do all of those better, he just isn't a YAC monster and that's ok. Deebo was one of one in that regard but even he wasn't breaking tackles like we're used to seeing.

yeah and you see the orbital motion and free releases and how they used Ricky. grooming to be a Deebo replacement. he does need to hit the gym a bit for lower body. seeing some bum second stringers stopping him dead in his tracks and shyt


He can't break tackles like Deebo, true but otherwise @Heretic is spot on.
Neither guy is a true outside X receiver. BA and Jennings are. Jennings is just slow so teams typically dont worry about him beating them over the top.

Deebo deserves nothing but love for 2021, the year we should’ve won a chip, but I think he’ll be a legit locker room cancer next year once it becomes obvious he’s Purdy’s fifth preferred target behind BA, JJ, Kittle and Pearsall. He’ll be fukking miserable and demanding more halfback draws, reverses and sweeps so he can pick up a yard or two.

I love Deebo but even with BA out I don’t think he’s gonna be happy with his role and the last thing we need is one of the teams leaders being a malcontent in the locker room.

But god damn he almost dragged us to the superbowl in 2021 with no offensive line and Jimmy G slingin it smh

This will be a long post but I'll sum it up at the end. Deebo is one of my favorite players in the entire league but i have to admit he's been declining. He's basically a wasted down when coming out of the backfield and a non-factor as an outside receiver and even worse against man coverage which teams figured out last year. Teams played us straight up and that's why Jennings had a career year because he can make the tough catches, Deebo dropped way too many, and always has.

His ceiling was always his 2021 season, he just can't replicate that, and watching him play i realized that season was the exception and not the norm, especially when he isn't a 1st read, he's so out of shape that he can't even afford to go all out when he's not a primary read. I will say maybe last year had something to do with him battling pneumonia at some point but he hasn't been Deebo for a while. Aiyuk will have a chance to be what he was because his strength is in his route running, not necessarily his speed and ability to break tackles.

What we'll see is probably a stop gap WR and we'll see Pearsall settle in as a Cooper Kupp type of slot guy along with CMC being a big part of the passing game which will hopefully mean less long developing plays for Purdy which will be us prioritizing the short and intermediate game which is what we went away from completely last year.

TLDR; Deebo was probably told he's gonna have to cope with being a less focal point of the offense possibly even being a 4th WR when Aiyuk gets back, because we finally realize he can't carry us like he once did and he never develped the ability to beat man coverage and teams adjusted. The way he played really tipped off plays, we all saw it, we just didn't want to admit it. We've been planning for this since we restructured his deal and drafted Pearsall.
