Why come online to tell people? I understand life gets hard sometimes but I would never show off my poverty stricken situation like an episode of mtv cribs.

I mean this in earnest - with the way this economy is going, this may be a tutorial for many people - those who are already living on the edge as I write this - on how to pull this off in the near future.

I feel you but this is the age of the internet and social media. Anyone under 40 likely grew up with this as a daily part of their lives and it's not going anywhere any time soon. If you really want it gone or toned down get at your local and state reps/senators to start making legislation and regulate it.
