Since Ethiopia is the only African country not colonized, I contemplate making it capital of new world of black supremacy

Italy definitely colonized Ethiopia. Why is it talked about like they didn’t? Sure they were eventually defeated but Italy left its mark on that country.
Yeah, they try their best to hide it, and the only reason for the defeat was because Haile Selassie made a deal with the British.

All jokes aside. "Ethiopians don't consider themselves black". Is a misnomer IMO

From my experience all the Ethiopians/Eritreans I've met say they are not "Black American", but say they are Black in a sense of African lineage and decedents of Ancient Kemet
I don't think they have a connection to the term "Black People". The term Black is relatively a newer term compared to older cultures. Like for instance the term "Moor" was the term for a Black Person 500+ years ago before USA ever existed
Look up what barya means in Ethiopian. Haile Selassie himself said he was a Caucasian, and read up on what Marcus Garvey had to say about how Ethiopians treated him. Ethiopians do a lot to hide their anti-blackness, but amongst themselves, they are anti-black.

Ethiopians don’t consider themselves black ? :lupe:

All the habesha women I’ve met in NYC and Philly definitely claim their black :patrice:

Are we using the words of c00ns to describe a whole nation :francis:
Being considered "Black" racially is more prevalent in the Western world. Those Ethiopian women you met were most likely raised in the US, right? So of course, they would consider themselves to be Black.

Within Africa itself, things are different. Outside of South Africa, "Black" as a racial term doesn't really exist on the African continent. From what I've seen and read, many Ethiopians view themselves as being "different" and "special" from other Africans (especially West and Central Africans).

Ethiopians viewed themselves as non Bantu in addition to the religious lore of being Semitic while the Bantu and negro were descendants of ham. I distinguish between Bantu and negro as at a point of history they were two different categories of black based on region with Bantu being more of a central, south, and eastern africa term due to the people of those regions being the ones who migrated from west Africa while many modern west Africans tend to have migrated from the north/sahara

Who cares what Haile Selassie thinks. He was a quasi-dictator that doesn't speak for every Ethiopian

That would be like someone who has no knowledge of America watch interviews of the idiotic shyt Trump and Biden say and thinking that is how everyone in America acts/thinks

its sort of semantic. usually colonization is a very very long and thorough process. italy didn’t militarily occupy ethiopia long enough for it to take place in the way it did throughout most of africa, which required generations of colonization.

it would be like saying germany colonized poland during World War II.

italy was also very very bad at colonization. i think even in the countries in africa they colonized for generations italian is basically not used or taught at all. definitely not like in the former british or french colonies. so during the time they had ethiopia they probably left even less of an impact than places like libya and somalia.
