Since a year is how long it takes the earth to revolve around the sun, shouldn’t the new year happen at the same time for everyone on earth?

You should look up how time zones work; I don’t mean it in a condescending way it really helped me to grasp the concept.
The meridian line is in Greenwich London which is 0°. Everything that moves 30° west of that line is plus 1 hour. So 60° is plus 2 hours etc etc. Everything that moves east at 30° is minus 1 hour. I hope that explanation is clear I’ll look for a video and post it.
Also if it helps the Meridian line is the vertical line that splits the earth down the middle then additionally there is the equator that splits the earth in 2 horizontally but that’s for directional longitudinal and latitudinal navigation.
