So I got back into Djing recently and I'm a little rusty. I haven't done it in over 5 years and I used to rock with vinyl, now I'm using a digital mixer with my PC. You can scratch with the equipment I have all though it doesn't feel as natural as it does with vinyl.

I've only been back at it for about a month but I wanna step my game up a little faster. At the moment I'm mostly fading songs in and out or pausing and starting tracks at the same time.

What are some simple mixing tricks you guys can recommend for the type of equipment and software I'm using? I appreciate the help!

Well, I'm new to DJing and I don't have nearly the time to invest. I want to guide you to harmonic mixing to help out. I'm going to pull the trigger and buy Mixed In Key today. http://www.mixedinkey.com/

There is a free alternative called KeyFinder that helps with finding keys. http://www.ibrahimshaath.co.uk/keyfinder/

As you use these tools, your ears will always be your best guide but for a newbie such as myself and someone getting back into it, these things can help a ton.

I've also had to clean up my library of songs. I've gotten them renamed with the bitrate in the song name as well. I've used a free software called Musicbee with that. http://getmusicbee.com/

As I said, I'm learning on the fly as well but I can help with anything that I know.

OK. Thanks for those links, I will check em out later. I mean, I don't really need that much help, I can pretty much work and get into it with what I already know but I was hoping a couple of tricks I don't know or have forgotten could help me get there quicker. I do it my own way anyway, I think in a couple of months I'll be ready to start doing gigs again. I just gotta keep practicing and putting playlists together.

That's a little pointer I could give you. Just put playlists together of tracks that u think work well together and it will be easier to mix and get a party going in the future.

What do you wanna know breh? I been spinnin for 10+ years.

Just simple drops, things like that. I first got into it ten years ago then I had to quit for 3 years. Started again in '07 and did it till '10. I just started again a month ago. So I'm taking my time with it.

you suck balls. you will never, ever move a crowd.

How would u know? It might take me a little while to get back into it but I've always had a good ear for music.

You got any previous mixes or anything?

I've actually put 2 mixtapes together already, just haven't been able to record them yet, I need to update the software I'm using.

But I'm just using basic mixing techniques. Fading tracks in and out, stopping and starting at the same time, some spin backs, a few scratches here and there, etc.

I'm using an MP3 controller. Numark Mixtrack Pro 2 to be exact. And as software I'm using serato intro. This is my 1st time doing the digital thing but I think its really dope. Any MP3 u can find you can work with. Awesome really, compared to the vinyl days. Although vinyl is still the best for proper scratching though.
