0-20 minutes: Absolutely nothing happens

20-30 minutes: OK here we go. This is silent hill. These graphics are crazy. I wish the character animations were better but it works. Dense fog. Armless enemies. Why the hell can’t I kill them without getting hit???

30-45 minutes: Ah ha. Dodge dodge hit hit dodge dodge hit hit hit stomp stomp. I’m Barry freakin Bonds with this 2x4!

45-60 minutes: thank God for this map! I’m really liking the pace of the progress.

60-90 minutes: this game is freakin amazing. It’s 12am and I have to work in the morning. I’ll stop here in these apartments for now.

*Played with headphones. Highly recommend it. 3D audio cues are super important in this game.

A little over 2 hours in.
I appreciate how the backtracking is handled so far.
Getting to an area with a locked door lead me to go down a hallway I hadn't gone down yet, which opened up to another area I needed to explore. When I found the key I needed, I found a break in the wall that lead me back to the initial locked door I found.

Once you find the flashlight the game gets very dark and you end up swinging the right stick around in circles everywhere you go. It works for the atmosphere but kind of feels tedious at times. Many of the rooms have reused assets, for example, every kitchen looks exactly the same.

The map continues to be top tier game navigation.

Make sure you're going through the options and adjusting the interface to your liking.
I made sure the little dot that highlights objects was enabled (it may be enabled by default I don't remember I just mention it because you can also change the size of the dots if you like), and I'm most likely going to be turning off the red border that indicates when you're hurt because I find it very distracting and you can tell when you're hurt already by the way the character walks after getting hit.

PS5 progress says I’m 25% done for whatever that’s worth. If pace remains constant it’ll put my playthrough at about 13 hours or so.

Still feel slightly annoyed at the amount of reused assets and layouts in different little sections.

The map in this game and the way they handle backtracking is a flat out master class in game level design. Seriously. I can’t praise it enough.

Once you get into room 201 you’ll realize everything leading up to this moment was almost a tutorial by comparison. Step into that room and be prepared for the real Silent Hill.

I’ll tell you this, you have a gun, be prepared to use it. Melee is going to work against you at this point since enemies can blow up upon death and if you’re close you’ll take significant damage. Yet another example of how well this game designed. Almost just as soon as you get the gun, the game nudges you to make use of it.

The games atmosphere is definitely unsettling however, the character has enough agility and firepower to hold his own in every situation without feeling overpowered, which makes that feeling a bit lighter since you aren’t necessarily afraid of instant death at every turn. The radio, while incredibly helpful and is a hallmark of the series, has me now wondering how much more scary would the game be without it. Remove the music, and the radio queues for when an enemy is near and you’d have a much more intense experience.

Sidenote: the main character has to be top 3 biggest morons in the history of game and the npcs are as well.
There’s a hole in the wall with blood, guts, and the sound of a monster on the other side…let me stick my hand in it!
A monster just ran under a hole in the wall…let me drop down and crawl after it!
I just witnessed a monster rip another monster apart and carry its body through a door…let me follow it! The story, more specifically the behavior/decisions of every single character in this game are laughably terrible. The only ones that actually make sense in what they’re doing are the freakin enemies lol.

When they first announced this remake I downloaded the OG PS2 version but never got around to playing it. The strangest thing happened yesterday, on a whim I loaded it up on PCSX2 and literally had no clue the remaster dropped this week until today when it popped up in my youtube feed. I haven't sat down to play a single player game in a LONG time. That being said, playing it made me mad I missed it when it first came out. The atmosphere is incredible and the map system is great and intuitive, I only had to look at a walkthrough once which is a rarity for me on these types of games. The combat/camera on the OG is definitely the weak point, honestly though I got used to it and w/ decent resource management it's not hard.

I made it to the Lakeview Hotel on the OG, legit have had a blast with it and 100% will check out the remake.

how is this brehs? worth full price or wait for sale?
It’s worth the full price.
IMO this sets the bar high for the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake especially since both OG games suffered from bad camera angles. They did an amazing job keeping the soul of the OG while making it fit with modern games.
