This is kind of stupid... Singles ALWAYS have driven album sales especially in the 90s where if you didn't want to spend 3.99 for the single press up you'd buy the whole album to get your favorite song plus hope there was other good stuff on there too since you couldn't easily preview the album pre purchase like you can today

nikka u crazy. Lol. nikkas had to actually BUY the music. Use gas money. Go to the store. And PURCHASE that shyt. That takes far more effort. Add to the fact is Thriller is prolly the most successful album by a solo artist ever created. That album wasnt some regular ass popular album. shyt was history in the making.
Exactly. And just putting in perspective, a guy like drake, even with stream metrics doesn’t have a single diamond album. Now put this against thriller with estimated 130million units sold just in us, and 210 mill worldwide, and a whole catalog exceeding 750 MILLION albums, with some analysts even saying that it could be a billi. Lol is not even fair

shyt there’s pop artists out right now that straight up shyt on Drake when it comes to numbers. Yet we frontin like prolly the most famous person to ever walk this earth wouldnt trump all this shyt.
Naw. As someone who keeps up with the Billboard charts every week, I can definitely tell you that Drake easily had the biggest year out of any Artist. No white pop star was touching him.

couple points I'd make...

2. One of the better ways to determine true popularity via streaming boils down to albums with the most songs with over 500k or 1mil sales. I saw an article last week that said Cardi and Kendrick are the only recent rappers to release an album where every song has sold 1mil or more. I'd imagine Drake will join that list with Scorpion in a few months, obviously. Whereas a lot of artists are living off 1-2 hits inflating everything. I'd bet money that Lil Baby's album streams are like 90% based off Yes Indeed, for instance. Hits matter, folks...
Man, none of Drake's previous projects has had every song gone at least gold. So I can't see it happening with "Scorpion" either especially since it's a double album.

Singles have always sold albums

You act like it wasn’t the norm for people to buy an album for one song and only play that song

Yeah, people are acting like there aren't COUNTLESS stories if people buying an album based off a single, and then complaining about the shyt being a weed plate after. I specifically remember nikkas being gassed for Drag-on's album because they liked Down Bottom and Spit These Bars, and IMMEDIATELY tossing that shyt.

We're also acting like there weren't numerous examples of singles selling better than the album when it came out. The same shyt is happening, it's just being presented differently.
