Watch the words. He is not FBA or ADOS. He has a black ancestor and that’s it. He has not identified as black in his life and is not eligible for reparations.
This is a flimsy prerequisite...
the only thing holding cacs back from being eligible is how they choose to identify themselves. Easily exploitable.

"Everyone" has an unlikely ancestor, but if he was 7% asian or native american, this wouldn't be news :martin:

Joe Manganiello on Discovering He’s Part-Black and Descended From Slaves

“If I have a short list of all-time greatest hits, Joe Manganiello’s paternal ancestry is on that list,” Gates tells Rolling Stone.

During his episode, Manganiello, 46, discovered that his great-grandmother Terviz “Rose” Darakjian, who escaped the Armenian genocide after her husband and seven of her eight children were murdered in front of her by Turks, ended up in a refugee camp where she was impregnated by Karl Wilhelm Beutinger, a German officer. Beutinger then returned to his wife and three sons in Germany, one of whom became a Nazi SS officer. Even more surprising, however, was his father’s side: Joe’s DNA did not match anyone with the “Manganiello” name, and the man he thought was his grandfather, Emilio Manganiello, was in fact not.

When Joe’s father submitted to DNA testing, Gates’ team determined that Joe’s biological great-grandparents were William Henry Cutler, who was Black, and Nellie Alton, who was white. They narrowed Joe’s grandfather down to one of three Cutler sons, all of whom were light-skinned African-American men. (Joe’s DNA revealed he’s 7% Sub-Saharan African.) Gates and co. also learned that Joe’s fifth great-grandfather was a man named Plato Turner. Records indicate Turner was born in Africa, brought to America in bondage as a child slave, became a free man, and was one of 5,000 Black men who fought for the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War. There is a monument dedicated to him in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

For lack of a better term, I call this disturbing litany of tips “The Rules of Passing”:
.

2)Change your last name to one that is not associated with black family names. Avoid such surnames as Jones, Jackson, Johnson, Williams, Thomas, and Brown.
.

12)Avoid the appearance of being secretive about your racial identity. If your physical appearance makes it possible, claim to be of white European background. If you have a darker complexion, claim to be a mixture that includes a white European background (e.g., Irish, Dutch, German, Polish) and a darker European or Middle Eastern background (e.g., Greek, Cuban, Lebanese, Portuguese). Never claim any ethnic group from continental Africa or Mexico or Central America.

17)If having your own child is a priority to you, you will be better able to explain your child’s dark features if your spouse is a member of a dark-skinned ethnic group. Southern Italians, Greeks, Armenians, Brazilians, and Cubans are among the groups that fit this category.

“The Rules of Passing” have pretty much remained unchanged for families today, even though they were first established by northern and
southern families who were avoiding the harsh discriminatory practices in existence during the slavery and early post slavery periods.

*Our Kind of Paisans

*For anybody else reading this, the author LOG looked down on the practice of passing. He said that as a group, they generally did. But he couldn't write about the history without covering the who, what, where, how details of it.

Wild story. Chattel slavery in the Americas was the worst experience human beings have ever lived through. Having said that, being enslaved as a child and being able to become free within the 1st generation of being here was the best possible scenario for that family line of his.
