Maybe. I see that's what these Japanese developers do. Retire then make their own company. Like Mikami, for instance.

Regardless, Yoshida basically made sure that games were at a great level. He was the quality control. I fear that Sony doesn't have somebody on that level to replace him.

Yoshida has been primarily involved with the indie initiative for the past 5 years, other people like Greg Rice and that team he works with (from Double Fine) have been really good at bringing indies to playstation, especially day one titles like animal well and plucky squire.

they probably just offered him a really good retirement package and he took it

Whether he really retires or not, this is a big loss to PlayStation. I wish him well whatever he does.

I think I’ll misss the fact that he’s the only front facing exec left at sony and he genuinely seems to be liked all over the industry. As far as games go, nothing stops this train.

to me Shu is kind of like the Reggie of Playstation. I think without him, Sony is completely faceless like Nintendo is
