He basically meant that if Russia takes over the Ukraine they will start chipping away at taking over the former USSR countries and become stronger as a nation. A stronger Russia will not be willing to negotiate future deals because they will flex. So ofcourse the USA will feel it in the future when their 'enemy' that they've been beefing with since WW2 gets stronger.

The fact this has to even be spelt out goes to show how stupid people are, and it's wild that Americans have spent so many decades seeing Russians as their biggest enemies, & now want to act oblivious to Putin's current maneuvers.
