Should the next consoles be modular similar to PC?

If Sony chose the GPU/CPU/Ram, wouldn't that still keep it simple for the devs? They can already have a tier list of the different builds. Or maybe Sony has a requirement that if you upgrade one, you have to upgrade all 3?

PC players have different builds all day long. Do Sony Devs complain about porting to PC?

PC games have "Minimal Requirements", thus the reason I said that the Devs would develop for the "Least Common Denominators (Base-unaltered consoles)", first.

Who chose the GPU/CPU/Ram isn't the issue. The issue is adding more "Variables" to the "Equation".

Let's be real, even having "Closed Hardware Environments" now, many Devs are putting out poorly optimized/coded games CURRENTLY.

Now change the landscape, and allow users to modify GPU/CPU/RAM etc... It makes the job harder for Devs.

Why not just skip consoles all together and just go PC at the point?

One again "The Allure Of Consoles Is the 'Closed' Dev Environments".

If you want modularity with your hardware, just get a PC.

Console gaming is supposed to be a more "Curated" experience.

Another thing also is.

Even if Sony or Micrsoft "Controlled the parts".

There will always be 3rd-party hardware developers making cheaper/less-quality parts, to compete.

Making the "Variables" issue larger.

Consoles are for users who typically don't want to be bothered, or aren't knowledgeable about GPU/CPU/RAM etc..

They just want to play games.

Having a non-modular hardware makes, it easier for devs to predict game performance.

Start adding the ability for users to change Ram, GPUs etc... That throws a wild-card into the process.
Would it really be much more complex than it is now where they're developing for 4 different skus on each platform?

They could just make a removable proprietary GPU and release a "pro" GPU instead of an entire console.

I think Breh, was talking about more than just a single GPU upgrade. But multiple options.

I could be wrong, on the scale of modularity that he meant.

But he mentioned, GPU,CPU,RAM upgrades, that changes the scenario from a simple "Pro Module", upgrade.

Yeah that just sounds like a PC.

The concept could work if it was something like the N64 ram cart tho.

They also did something similar with the Sega 32X and Sega CD.

It could work, but the upgrades would also have to be a "Closed Environment".

Otherwise, yeah it would be just like a PC.

Would be dope if done properly but you know damn well these shareholders want you to buy 2-3 different SKUs per console generation. If they were to go modular the up charge on shyt like disc drives, stands, performance upgrades, etc would be even more overpriced than they are now

I ain’t buying shyt after the ps5 pro.. yall got me for the last time

Maybe a portable like switch 2… ps6 and Xbox whatever can kisss my ass :mjcry:
No way that's your username and you didn't know that a $350-$400 GPU (6800/xt) outperforms what's in PS5 Pro :russ: . You could have asked real AI and it would have told you. 2 Pros later and STILL no native 4K across all games smh

Edit: The 2080 Super came out in 2019, is under $300, and is on par with the PS5 Pro GPU. $60 RAM, $40 case, $80 board, $130 processor, $40 SSD, $40 PSU...plug it into a TV...there is your PS5 Pro 5 years ago
