Should rest days be routine, or only when you feel like it?

I have to assume some of you people are on a split right? like, chest tri on Monday, back bi on Tuesday, Abs/shoulders/legs on Wednesday, then repeat right?
Yea that's what I'm doing.
So should I make it a point to take a day off on Thursday?

i try to concentrate on another part of my body or another exercise. for instance, today, i did abdominal and chest exercises today because i felt sore from my running/stretch routine yesterday and i didn't want to risk injury. i just try to always keep it active

I've learned to go by feel nowadays. After a while you kinda learn when to back off or take a day off if you're not really training for anything specific.

Im running a 10 week powerlifting training block currently so I had to program days off into it to keep myself at bay.

Scientifically you need to take rest days unless you're doing a split body routine so your muscles can recover and rebuild. Not saying you can't build without them but it won't be as efficient. You'll see more results allowing the rebuilding to take place instead of tearing and breaking down muscles before they rebuild.

Rest days are just as important as work out days. Anyone who tells you different aint lifting shyt worth mentioning and doesn't know what theyre talking about

Especially if youre lifting heavy. Maybe if youre a cardio or calisthenics cat you could get away with it but I still wouldn't recommend it. I always feel and do my best after taking my week off like the breh @Originalgangsta317 told you

Setting yourself up for early onset tendinitis and other joint issues early on for no reason

I rest 1-2 days a week. I never miss abs or calves though.
