Should i quit my full time permanent NOC job to work a contract NOC job thats remote?

I'm well liked in my work place
I show up on time and rarely take off
And I am constantly improving

I work for a small ISP, we recently got bought out
I only make $48000 something a year and get paid once a month

Moving up is not an option, cuz even the dudes that been there longer and got pushed up to different positions recently, are still making the same until they get a raise

They are cheap as hell around here

I want my next step to be a Network admin or engineer

I GOT HIT up for a network admin position on linked on by a recruiter, but it's for a MSPStill gonna interview and put my best face on

Got an interview at Amazon for a data center, heard they pay well but it's basically general labor and a step down from what I do now. Hard pass

Ever since I updated my resume on Dice, i got dudes hitting me up to work remote in a noc for damn near double the pay

Recruiter: What rate would you like?
Me: *looks up 70k a year* $33.65 an hour.
Recruiter: You said 35 to 36 an hour? I can do that!
Me:idk bruh. I'm permanent. Ima pass. Lemme know if you get Network Engineer positions and save my info.

Recruiter: So you don't want me to submit you? The last person I placed is on his second year!

Me: aight bruh...go ahead

I made a career change to IT, but it took for ever. Earned my remote status, but I still want way more money


even with that, its wild out here... trump fukkin up the economy and job growth, the tech industry layoffs thread, etc


All that to say, *I* would want a sure bet-- but that's all I know. Meanwhile, others aim for the bushes and double or triple their income... lemme look into these certs

1.5 years at a NOC is more than enough time to move onto the next thing. being single with no dependents makes it much easier to double down and focus and quickly get your skills up. I wouldn't worry about whether or not a gig was permanent vs contract. Most important thing to look for in your next position is the type of work you'll be doing. A place where there's gonna be a lot of projects that give you opportunity to grow and add to your resume.

an MSP might not be bad. getting on as a jr network guy at any type of bank/hospital/university/etc. where there's gonna be a lot of projects going on would be perfect for you

Take the Amazon job.
I have family that works the corporate and the IT side.
You get your foot in the door at amazon they will push you and pay you if you have work ethic.

Yes do it.. You are essentially a business owner as an independent contractor. You might lose money in the short term, but long term you should make much more.. If you ever want to become financially free, risk is just part of the game.

Trump hasn't really hurt the IT space at all. I don't know where you think that is coming from.
Tech layoffs started mid last year before Trump took office, that is what the RTO mandates were all about laying off personnel.

That said what are you doing in the IT field. Certs aren't the be all end all, but if you are a black american or black carribean/african they are neccessary to get noticed because the indians, asians, and whites do everything they can to try to keep us out. So experience and skill are required for us, with the certs.
