Remove that newfangled part about God regardless, but no, it shouldn't be mandatory. That would be some creepy, nationalist shyt. Children should be encouraged to memorize the Bill of Rights and parts of the Constitution instead- things that really matter and will help them later on.

We should always have loyalty and allegiance to our nation. We don't have to support all it's actions, but you can't really hate on the idea of Nationalism. It's not creepy or wrong. Children should learn it, but not be forced to recite it... instead the nation and the adults in the nation should be creating an environment in which people would want to grow up and serve their nation.. and learn the pledge.

The part about God maybe shouldn't have been in there in the first place, but it's there and it's not killing anybody to have it in there. Don't say it if you don't want to or relocate to a nation built upon different principles.

If you think yes, why?

If you think no, do you prohibit your child from pledging allegiance?
Forced? No.
But, I would encourage it because that's what Americans do. Patriotic Americans do it because that is who we are. Of course, I don't agree with everything that goes in Washington D.C., but I don't hate this country for it. I'm proud to be an American. I'm proud to have been born here. The Bronx to be specific. :cpr:
If they grow up and end up not wanting to be an American, as an adult, then that's their decision.
If you want to be a non-American, then it's your choice to tell your children not to say the Pledge.

Compelling a child to recite the pledge is like compelling them to tell their parents they love them every morning. You want it to come from the heart and not out of obligation. In essence, a forced pledge is no pledge.
Furthermore, nationalism can be a good thing but since the late 1800s, nationalism has been used to brainwash and indoctrinate civilians into doing what this Corporatocracy wants them to do.

I've always like the pledge and the national anthem

Our national anthem plays out like the ending theme from a summer blockbuster

Too bad in 2013 all that freedom is being infringed upon by the very people that are elected...

So you feel most children are saying the pledge of allegience in school because they want to?

I am saying the pledge of alliegance is a custom and it isn't mandatory, if I a child or the parent doesn't want to then the child doesnt have to

I don't think a child cares either way about the pledge

Children are pressured into saying the pledge of alliegance by those in charge of their care.

It isnt said "For those who want to pledge of allegience, please stand"....nah, whats said is "Everyone Rise for the pledge of allegience..."
