Not a Kursher fan here but both Pascal and B-Hop were clearly considered as higher level opponents at the point Kovalev fought them than Adonis' best win since Dawson - Fonfara - who was starting to get recognition with that Stevenson fight and later getting bigger with wins over Cleverley and Chavez. So Fonfara as a relevant figure n the division started with the Stevenson fight he wasn't considered as good as an opponent as Pascal or B-Hop when Adonis fought him.
Chilemba is arguably also better than any guy on Stevenson's resume maybe except Fonfara, idk...
Even if you say Stevenson can't get the guys who are fighting on HBO - which might be true eve if I don't really see the intention on Stevenson to fight those guys - the fact that he didn't fight even the guys who pose more serious challenge on the Showime/PBC side is telling. Eleider Alvarez isn't exactly a monster but Stevenson stalling that fight for a year now or so... he also didn't fight Beterbiev who is (now actually jut was...) also with GYM. It's like GYM lived these past couple years only to please Stevenson and satisfy him with easy matchups while they locked away from him their other strong fighters. They offered Eleider Alvarez step aside money like twice...?
What's the reason that Stevenson wanted somebody else (Joe Smith, Monaghan, Fonfara) SO SO much before fighting Eleider Alvarez?
Why is he stalling an Eleider Alvarez fight?
That tells me a lot about Stevenson. He is the type of title holder who wants the easiest possible way for a money grab and nothing else and the sad thing that his promoter assists to this even at the cost of some other fighters of his. either Alvarez or Beterbiev could easly get a shot at Stevenson cause they were with GYM too but GYM only wanted to satisfy Stevenson and not those guys.
It really is a shame cause when he KO Dawson and made his first couple of defenses I was really hyped about him, he has an exciting, explosive style and carries dynamite in that left he just lacks any ambition for a world champion.
