Hes a good actor, just not a good fit for the character. Luke Cage in the comics struck me as having a personality more like will smith did in men in black.
Mike Colter channeled more of a Dennis Haybert from them allstate commercials.
His disposition made sense considering they made him a PK (preachers kid) in the show, a lot of self rightious cornballs have those origins. I feel like him being forced to immerse himself into the streets at the end of season 2 can explain the shift in his character to being a little more swagged out. Even the way they had him dressing in the finale pointed to him having to adapt to the criminal element going forward.

I'm not really a stan of this showThere are some episodes I like and don't like, but it could be better. I'm not having these armchair screenwriters and executives think they can do better than Feige and company.
