Agreed, they wouldn't have. I didn't support the way we intervened in Libya, either. I'm just saying that people with Pan-Africanist/anti-colonialist/Muslim sympathies need to stop settling for authoritarian despots like him as far as people to get behind. He was no Nkrumah, but a significant contingent on this board defend him as if he was a great hero and all the horrible things he did are Western fabrications.

As for these allegations, I don't know. It certainly wouldn't be out of place, since that is classic authoritarian leader behavior, and people who wield that kind of power more often then not give into the temptation to abuse it, but ultimately it is a case-by-case thing.
