things drastically changed at the turn of the 20th century, after American industrialized and government became "big business". It was around the same time as the Progressive Era of the early 1900's, culminating in the Federal Reserve Act under Wilson.

I mean, thats a part of it. Government has always been some corrupt dudes, in all societies, in all era's.

I am currently looking at this president current regime and you can honestly tell that they are higher powers calling the shots. The wars and laws etc.... seem all over the place.

Months ago I read that before or maybe after the Great Depression a group of elites were planning to overturn Roosevelt as president. Years afterward we had Eisenhower complaining about military industrial complex and JK getting got. Years later Lydon went through depression and Carter got demonized, Nixon failed and Reagan bought Cocaine to the city double time. Bush Sr annouced the new world order and Clinton gave too much money to the citizens.

What is going on? Who really calling the shots? Oil companies etc...

you people seem to forget that a president isn't a dictator..he does possess significant power but he can't just snap his fingers and everything will be fixed..no matter how good the president..if your bureaucracy, departments and congress is corrupt..the country will still hit the shytter..most of the shyt obama has to deal with are all post 9/11 policies and he can't reverse most of them becuase you will need to pass..get with me here "LAWS"..and if congress is dysfunctional and pass laws then we going nowhere..and you asked when was the country rotten? ever since its inception..y'all remember the gilded age and slavery?
