Serena never ranked #1 because she doesnt play enough ranking tournaments thru the year.

And theres been questions thru out Serena's latter career (the past 5-6 years) that she lost interest in Tennis for various reason and its why she has all these breaks and has so many outside interests.

the best highschool mens tennis player in the country would probably be 1 on the wtp tour, so i dont take womens tennis very seriously relative to the tennis world as a whole, but serena is the current exception to the rule, as well as venus in her prime, steffi graf and maybe seles. they could crank their serves up and be able to compete physically

nah, shes the best of her competition by far. nothing specific to serena at all. it was more of an indictment on womens tennis. if anything it was more of a compliment to serena because she can compete at a high level with males.

im just sayin, im watchin kerber/errani for example, the 6 and 10 seeds, and im seeing first serves at 79 MPH. my serve as a Jr. in high school hovered around 120, just as a comparison. thats like a car driving by in between our two serves if we served at the same time. and i wasnt the top ranked high school player either. i was number 1 in new england briefly as a junior though. im very familiar with the skill levels in both realms, and im telling you, the top high school males player would be number 1 in females tennis.

serena isn't number 1 cuz she doesnt play enough, and she could compete with him if not beat him more often than he beat her, but im telling you, currently, serena is probably the only one. her serve is on par with the men, and shes got a powerful forehand. i just think if she consistently saw serves at 120 plus and had to return the shots with pace that men at that level hit, she would wear down and get outlasted. but who knows. she's clearly the best of women now, and perhaps all time physically. skill wise, maybe navratilova, but i think serena would wash the floor with her.
