Tom Cotton wants to tax 'liberal' universities for teaching history accurately

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) once referred to slavery as 'the necessary evil upon which the union was built.'

Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) appeared on Fox News on Monday night to give the right-wing network an exclusive on his proposal to tax the endowments of "liberal" colleges and universities.

On "Fox News Primetime," Cotton told host Brian Kilmeade, "I'm going to introduce legislation tomorrow, that I'm introducing to the American people tonight on your show, that's going to tax endowments of the biggest, richest, and frankly most liberal universities in America."

Cotton said that money in university endowments, charitable donations to the institutions held in funds that generate income used for capital investment, research, scholarships, teachers' salaries, and other purposes, amounts to "tens of billions of dollars sitting in their endowment. They pay almost nothing in federal taxes, and they charge full freight to kids to take Zoom classes, and Brian, this is at a time when they are also actively indoctrinating students to hate America, to believe it's an oppressive, racist nation

*host called him out at the end for the proposal being grandstanding, hehe

Why wouldn't he be? I don't recall Obama calling for Joe Schmoes to run the country

His running mate was literally named Joe and went to a state school for undergrad.

It was pretty obvious that his running mate was picked to offset people's impression of him as much as possible (the main basis of most running mate picks). That doesn't mean Joe Biden was running the country, or that a guy who had been in the Senate for 36 years and one of its leaders for 20+ years was not now one of the "elite".

When Obama became president there was a big deal made about how "elite" his picks were. Mostly from Ivy League backgrounds including the literal president of Harvard and a lot from Wall Street with strong rumors that a Wall Street insider had helped formulate his list. That doesn't make the criticisms entirely valid, but Obama did certainly tap into the elite side of the pool when he made his picks. Did you see any real grassroots progressives in the mix?

VP is literally second in line to run the country. Regardless of why he was chosen to balance the ticket , Obama literally put Joe Schmoe on the shortest of short lists to run the country.

The poster walked into that by posting what he posted.

Do you agree with the other poster that being a (2x)graduate of the most selective institutions makes one an elitist by default?

Obama's team was assembled the same way that other elected officials put theirs together. The network of people who helped him defeat the Clinton machine, and then McCain got patronage jobs/appointments or were on the transition team that helped to make the picks.

Obama and Booker are by virtue of their education, or because they reached the highest levels of the legislative branch of power?
Are elite law school graduates elitist by default, including those who aren't politicians?
Idk why you are trying to play this song and dance. They are elitist. Obama ran as a president for the liberal elite. This shouldn’t be a controversial statement.
