Aren’t you a limited government conservative? lol soon as a mf says we have to save the kids you dolts will allow anything. This isn’t even a “try” he proposed no actual way in accomplishing this.
it's a stepping stone for a legal framework towards online censorship. the architects of these laws know that but not all of their supporters are tech literate enough to understand.

Not going to stop kids from getting on social media.
:manny:I dont think "people are still going to do/find a way to do X", is a good argument to not make laws prohibiting or restricting X' otherwise why have laws at all.
Small government

I think the negative effect(s) social media is having on society justify some controls... and i dont think it's pro big gov/socialism to suggest it.

Does that apply to guns as well :patrice:
We already have restrictions in place for guns...

Strange that you’re so concerned with some negative effects of social media on children but not concerned with everyone having affordable healthcare. Parents should control their children, we shouldn’t be creating laws trying to ban social media that could easily turn into further internet censorship

I like the idea, but they have zero ability to implement it.

And it's kind of amusing that it's a perfect example of the "nanny state" which Republicans claim to despise.
:manny:France is looking at some measures to restrict porn... so it seems there are viable measures we can take to make accessing various content less convenient.

PARIS, Feb 6 (Reuters) - France will present this week a digital-certification mechanism to oblige pornography websites to effectively control the age of viewers on their sites from September, French digital minister Jean-Noel Barrot said on Monday.

People who want to visit these websites will have to install an application for government-licensed digital certification on their mobile phones to prove that they are at least 18 years old. Sites which do not comply will risk being banned from publishing in France.

Don’t know how you’d enforce it, at least not without severe privacy compromises/it’s not realistic, but I’m all for it. People can talk parents responsibility all they want, kids have a lot of access to shyt outside the home, parents can’t control everything, so blocking some of this stuff at the site level is helpful

We should still try:manny:
try what tho?

let me introduce you to Nostr.

it's impossible to impose a ban on this open source tech.

china banned a Nostr client 2 days after it was released on the app store.

people can still use Nostr web clients or sideload a Nostr client on android.

an endless game of wack-a-mole if they intend to block nostr relays.

bans dont work but building better moderation tools would be preferable or they'll just run users off to platforms.
