I would like to present we watch & discuss Will Ferrell's Semi-Pro. Not only for the hidden reason below in the spoiler but because it's an underrated movie. It's funny as hell and great to watch on a rainy day.
So here's the basics on the movie Jackie Moon is a former one hit wonder living in a small Michigan town. He uses his money from his music to buy the basketball team, the Tropics and even plays for them. They're pretty shytty team. But eventually the league is going to be phased out and the top teams go on to the NBA. So it's win or get phased out now, they have to win games & get audience attendance numbers up to prove they are worth staying around.


All types of funny fukkery happens through this movie. It co stars Woody Haroldson, Andre 3000, Deray Davis, Will Arnet, and a few funny cameos.

It's set in the 70's so the music is great too.

It's rainy here in Chicago and I don't have to be at work for a while; I'm bout to pop it in and lay back as i watch it.

It's definitely in the lower tier of Ferrell comedies. Has it's moments though

I'd go as far to say this is one of the 5 most underrated comedies of the 2000s. seriously

there are no great basketball comedies. none. this might be the top dog

I would say no cause it’s two different levels of comedy. White men cant jump is more a story of a not so ‘average’ joe who can’t make good financial decisions and uses basketball as his way of making ends meet ain’t with his other streetwise talented friend. The only thing is., can the wise guy smarten up before his luck runs out or will he consequences catch up to him and cause him to lose everything? It’s all or nothing for this guy.

Comedic situations occur.
A lesson was learned.


Semi pro is not so very athletically talented, one hit wonder who decided to use his money earned on lavish things like a night club and even a local lackluster basketball team in 1970’s Flint, MI. Now the challenge is if he and the team can come together to show they have what it takes to be deemed as elite? It’s all or nothing for these guys.

Comedic situations occur.
The team comes together and they prove they’re good enough.


Two comedies but just different levels.
