Cuzin beat took this one easy. Great vibe, vocal sample, bass went hard too, a real head nodding beat you can chill too.

Mah joint sounded off beat or something, like it didn't flow that good to me.

You don't listen to lo-fi/sp404 type beats?

That stutter/off beat sound is intentional.

I don't listen to nor enjoy anything that sounds off beat.
I done heard plenty of lo-fi beats that are chill as fukk and aren't off beat.

This a beat contest, if you post some shyt like that, you run the risk of nikkas not fukking with it. Just like nikkas making 1 min beats. You fighting an uphill battle if you match up against a nikka that knows how to build a beat and flesh it out during the course of 3 or 4 minutes.

It is what it is :manny:

You pull no punches :russ:

I just played it again and it's not off beat to me but to each his own. I like them stutter step, crab dribble drums. I've actually been trying to figure out how to do that. I'll make note not to ever use it in a battle:hubie:

He's just not a fan of the swing that many of those style beats have. Swing is purposefully off-beat. but it's done in taste style. It's not that it doesn't work in a battle, it just depends on the people judging, if they understand that swing lane they may find it appealing and vote for it. Music is truly one of those subjective things there's no right or wrong.

I've noted that people have an issue with my 1 minute battle beats, but that's because I'm from a different school of thought, they may judge it based off of making a full song, but that's not what I consider a beat battle. When I hear "beat battle" I instinctively think 45 seconds to a minute, not a full song; so with my battle beats I make sure to provide everything in that one minute and if the people don't vibe with it, then so be it. If people aren't used to that style of production they will say "it's too short", etc. Not at all I just made it for what I consider a beat battle to be. But in terms of the coli the beat battles we have, they are considered full song instrumental battles with no time limit, as opposed to regulated beat battles with time limit ramifications, so it's a different school of thought. I say all that to say these are indeed 2 different beats, and depending upon who's listening to them will affect how they see it. It's not necessarily that you can't use that "Swing" style in a battle it's just a matter of does the person listening rock what you present or not.

We have to do what we do even if it may not be for everyone. Everyone here had a different sound.

Exactly, when you produce, go out on your sword and have no problem with it. It's one thing to adapt, it's another thing entirely, to cater to opinions. This is all relative though, when you start producing for companies and artists, obviously they are going to want a particular sound from you. At the same time, when you have your own sound that becomes a mute point. I've never known anyone to go and hit up 9th wonder and ask for a trap beat, that's just not what he does.

Damn you always be making it like I'm aggressive and taking shots. :mjlol:

I respect all the producers here because I love hiphop, but we all have our preferences. nikkas get upset for nikkas liking trap, but then get upset if you don't like the latest off beat techniques and shyt. I don't question anybody for not liking certain shyt. We like what we like. :manny:

Just like we all grade emcees on their subject matter and versatility and ability to rock on different production and sound, I look at producers like that too. Its great to have mastered one type of sound, but if you can master several types of sounds and do everything your ceiling becomes higher and your ability even greater.

Thats what the original beat tourneys were about. Seeing who stood above all as being the most complete producer. It was fun trying to see everybody seriously try to adapt to new styles or how some would totally kill it outta nowhere. If everybody goes back to what their good at, then the voting falls back to preferences instead of who's the most complete.

With that said, we've had some amazing beats in this tourney and I make sure to give mad props to those that impressed me, even if it wasn't my preference.

That's because of what you said about rod's drums in round one:sadcam:

I'm just playing for the most part but that had me nervous hoping you wouldn't say anything like that about mine. I'm still at the stage where I don't let anyone hear my beats. I don't even tell people I make beats. You didn't shyt on my work so I consider that a W.

It's cool though. I was more pointing out out that it's a stylistic choice but we all have our preferences. Not saying you were wrong in your choice.
