Like you said breh. The cost of living here is astronomical. Even in Westchester County, rent under $900 for a one bed room is damn near unheard of. So most young people in NYC and the region are stuck at home cause moving out is not possible. $6.50 in Minnesota goes so much further than $8.00 in NYC that it's not even funny. My boy moved to Fort Worth Texas from NY, and you can rent a HOUSE for $500. Yet they have almost the same min. Wage as NY, where the same house would coat 2500 a month.

you can work at a random retail store and have enough bread to hold an apartment down by yourself

There are so many this wrong economically with such a high wage floor

  1. It increases the wage scale for everyone, not just the bottom tier
    • If the lowest skill jobs go to 15/hr what do you do with medium skilled jobs? Will the receptionist who makes 30% more than minimum keep that job when she can become a dog walker for the same amount? You'll have to give him a raise now to keep them...and their boss...
  2. You dont just GROW MONEY you now need to increase payroll expense
    • Congrats youve just created inflation centralized in the city or joblessness in a city with a heroin problem...or both.
  3. how do you choose who pays what when? Are non profits exempt? If so why would I work at a place thats exempt? Congrats youve just increase their expenses too.
  4. youre doing this while also trying to increase vehicle and property taxes to build a bridge AND a tunnel AND fund mass transit. Theres ONLY ONE POT OF MONEY.

This is such a mistake

We have an office in Seattle, I'd assume the wages for those employees will have to go up as most bottom level employees don't even start at that much now, but they were starting about $4-$5 over the minimum wage before . More than likely my company will just move out of that market.

Mainly because they can't raise wages there and pay others significantly less for doing the same job in other areas of the country. Each position has its own pay scale that is standard across the division.

I love how some of the working class looks at that wage and is furious that it isn't lower. Truly brainwashed people. Instead of using it as a means to empower their labor rights and seek fairness, they attack their own.

Keep looking down idiots. Meanwhile the people above are raping you every chance they get.

When those white collar and STEM jobs feel the crunch it's going to be :ahh: Hell, you have college grads making less than me feeling like they're part of the ruling elite. It's only a matter of time until the whole 99% realize they are little more than pawns and slaves. By then it'll be too late.

the problem is the wages for mid level management/exec has gotten rediculous. Esp at the high executive level. I understand you are supposed to be the manager and shyt, so you should get paid more, but double, triple, quadruple, etc the pay? Come on fam.

I get that the fact that you can't pay overpay low skilled workers, but nothing is said for those who are skilled and making those wages due to cutting of the heads of the worker bees. A livable wage isn't much to ask for. The divide between the upper middle class and lower middle class/poor has gotten beyond rediculous especially with the entitlement of the the upper middle class and higher that because "I have a degree, this cert, etc. I should make this kind of money and I'm better than you (they might not say this, but many think this)".

Corporations CAN afford this shyt. The Corporatocracy this country is turning into is rediculous and has to stop somewhere. These corps and huge companies can pay the money, they just refuse to even though they can pay it AND still make a profit.

Guess we'll find out ....

It will never be too late unless we have to Elysium type of shyt going on in the future.

At the end of the day, the wealthy only have power because people put value into currency and that makes them very uncomfortable.

Yes, management pay has skyrocketed and no one blinks an eye but even raising the minimum wage one dollar is cause for outrage. "BUT THE PRICE OF MY BIG MAC IS GOING TO GO UP!!!!!! :sadbron:" It's already going up and will continue to rise.

Honestly we should raise the wages and let the market sort it out. If a company can't remain competitive and adapt in a $15 an hour world maybe they don't deserve to survive. Right capitalists types? :smugfavre:
