Sean “Diddy” Combs has sold an animated comedy series to FX networks, titled "Brightmore Elementary," which has been put into development.
Described as, according to Deadline, the series will follow black students of Brightmore Elementary school.
It will be written by Chip Hall ("King of the Hill") and Detroit comedian Chris Powell, aka Comedian CP.
Combs will executive produce alongside Trevor Engelson of Underground, and Five All In The Fifth’s Doug Banker executive produce.
If ordered to series, "Brightmore Elementary" will join "Archer" on the FX network - the hit adult animated spy spoof series created by Adam Reed, known for its witty raunch.
I can't help but think of "The Boondocks" for comparison, although we know almost nothing about what Diddy's plans are here. I recall what "Boondocks" creator Aaron McGruder said when the series premiered in 2005: "This isn't the 'nikka' show. I just wish we would expand the dialogue and evolve past the same conversation that we've had over the past 30 years about race in our country. [...] I just hope to expand the dialogue and hope the show will challenge people to think about things they wouldn't normally think about, or think about it in a very different way."
I wonder what Diddy's pre-premiere statement will be for "Brightmore Elementary."
