I never understood why they made "Theater Version" and "Unrated Version" of dvds
who the fukk don't want the raw unfilter raw cuts of movies?
This was done primarily because of Blockbuster Video policies and later because of stores like Walmart.
(I know this cause we had multiple meetings about the obcenity/vulgarity guidelines and thresholds to get into Walmart back when I was doing music)
Anyway, back when the transition to DVDs was occuring (from VHS) you had local video stores and you had Blockbuster Videos (later Hollywood videos as well) with sizable stores like 20/20 video in between.
Blockbuster refused to carry porn of any sort, and also would not carry certain films they considered to be vulgar or have harder ratings (nc-17 stuff like Showgirls and unrated extended cut of Barb Wire, etc) so to compete in the smaller stores which had actual porn and softcore flicks, they released uncut unrated versions, but to be allowed in Blockbuster they had inferior versions with lots of stuff like t*ts and blood removed.
Standards to get into Walmart is currently whats fueling this now that Blockbuster is bankrupt.
