predominantly black Deborah Brown Community School, which in the face of outrage in late August apologized and rescinded language banning dreadlocks, Afros, mohawks and other “faddish” hairstyles it had called unacceptable and potential health hazards.
A few weeks earlier, another charter school, the Horizon Science Academy in Lorain, Ohio, sent a draft policy home to parents that proposed a ban on “Afro-puffs and small twisted braids.” It, too, quickly apologized and withdrew the wording.

But at historically black Hampton University in Hampton, Va., the dean of the business school has defended and left in place a 12-year-old prohibition on dreadlocks and cornrows for male students in a leadership seminar for MBA candidates, saying the look is not businesslike.

If it's not racist self hatred to ban the natural orientation of our hair, I don't know what is :manny:

That pretty much takes the crown. I don't see many people sporting dreadlocks in professional environments, but the Executive Director of the Department of Community Affairs here in my state also rocks them and she's had that position for almost 20 years, so stating that 'the look is not businesslike' is nonsense. I've NEVER had an issue with mine regardless of the environment I find myself in for the past 12 years. More often than not, I get Caucasians staring at me like......:dwillhuh:

I wish dreads and afros were business like. All black men should sport them honestly as a sign of solidarity to one another in the work place... plus if you wanna be 100% frank, they just look imposing, like a nikka with dreads or a fro is most likely not gonna take some bullshyt :birdman:

I agree.

but we live here.....depending on what ur doing, u might wanna avoid the looks, I mean ur already black. As far as solidarity - we already have that. U see another black man in the building u automatically give that 'another brother' look.

I would probably wait until I'm wealthy before rocking the dreads. I Don't see why every black woman in the workplace or in life shouldn't have senegalise twist, kinky twist, dreads, braids, or some variation.

I got a mini Afro right now and I was planning on getting a perm for it to get that Kat William look and I never have to worry about it or brushing it, picking it in the morning etc

I work in an IT dept, and me having dreads has never been an issue. :yeshrug:

Had them when I started the job, and apparently nobody cared since I got hired. I may cut them at some point, but if I do it'll be because I want to rather than being worried about what somebody thinks.

Started my first corporate job with a fro. nobody even cared, one of my boys even had cornrows. I won't lie tho, I cut it to get higher positions, not because I was asked but because shorter (for men) is cleaner cut and more groomed. I mean how many VPs or Directors do you see with long hair?

when i used to rock dreads i never had an issue with white folks. infact, white b1tches love niccas with dreads (maybe cause it's a fad to them :krs:).
the black community is where dreads misconstrued. there are some afrocentric ppl who understand dreads but for the most part these days dreads are associated with thuggery. better the :dwillhuh: face from white ppl than :scusthov:from your own ppl.

there was a time where i just didnt give a fuq anymore and didn't take care too good care of them got in full rebel-anti-establishment mode. then after about a year i got rid of mine. and since then i've had a low cut. one of the reasons i had dreads for over 10 yrs is cause i never liked the shape of my head :flabbynsick: but now i'm comfortable with a bald cut :birdman:
