The dude is basically a sociopath. He and Jessica Alba's character started fukkin around because she was a prostitute that he was going to arrest and they ended up fukkin on some S&M shyt (which is why she was calm at first when he was slapping her). They were planning to extort $10,000 off of some wealthy guy from the town (His son was paying to fukk Alba) and then run away together.....but then he just beats her for no reason. I'm guessing because he didn't wanna wife up a prostitute and used that as excuse to feed his urge to kill. It sets off this chain of events where he ends up killing mad people and you see that he's just a fukked up psychopath. Alba ends up survivng the beating, until the end where he ends up finishing what he had started and stabs her to death.
